2021 Academy Awards Pushed Back to the Spring Due to COVID-19 Pandemic. Due to massive production delays in every aspect of the entertainment industry, The Academy has decided to postpone the 2021 Oscars from the intended date of February 28, 2021 to April 25, 2021.

The news was confirmed by The Academy via Twitter and shared the updated schedule for the 93rd Academy Awards. The post reads, “It’s true! Next year’s [Oscars] will happen on April 25, 2021. Here’s what else you need to know: – The eligibility period for the Oscars will be extended to February 28, 2021 – Nominations will be announced on March 15, 2021 – [The Academy Museum] will open on April 30, 2021”

With production being so far behind on many titles meant to be eligible for the upcoming Academy Awards, it is likely we will see some surprise nominations in the running for this years event. It is currently unknown if the 2021 Oscars will be hosted virtually, or if filmmakers and stars will be invited to attend the ceremony in person come April.

Like in years past, The Academy is also likely to feature an update video or segments regarding the construction and displays that will be found in The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures which will open to the public on Friday April 30, 2021.
