AMC Theatres will require guests to wear masks AMC theatres

AMC Theatres announced an update to its mask policy for customers. The company will require all employees and guests to wear masks when the movie theater chain reopens. It was formerly an option for guests to wear masks in theaters, but AMC reversed its decision to better ensure health and safety with a mandatory mask requirement.

Ryan Noonan, the director of corporate communications for AMC issued the following statement:

”At AMC Theatres, we think it is absolutely crucial that we listen to our guests. Accordingly, and with the full support of our scientific advisors, we are reversing course and are changing our guest mask policy. As we reopen theatres, we now will require that all AMC guests nationwide wear masks as they enter and enjoy movies at our theatres.”

The movie theater company has taken other measures to ensure health and safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. For instance, common areas will be routinely disinfected, and each theater auditorium will be reduced to 30% capacity or less to maintain social distancing.

“In my heart of hearts, I think we can manage AMC through this crisis,” said Aron. “There are no guarantees and nobody knows what coronavirus will look like in the winter or how long it will take to get a vaccine, but I can tell you that we have a very able management team here. We’re going to make every effort to make sure that AMC continues to be well positioned as a leader of the movie theater industry.”

The first set of AMC Theatres will open on July 15 in over 400 U.S. locations. The Disney Springs location is included and will open on that date. Another 150 locations are set to reopen by July 24 before the release of Disney’s live-action Mulan.
