Lucasfilm Reveals Freaky Original Concept Art for “Baby Yoda” in The Mandalorian

Lucasfilm Reveals Freaky Original Concept Art for “Baby Yoda” in The Mandalorian. In the latest episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian Lucasfilm and Disney revealed some of the original concept art for the internet sensation, The Child, aka Baby Yoda. The team received a ton of drawings and renderings for the character but ultimately chose a design based off Chris Alzmann’s now iconic character design.

The production team also knew they wanted to use the tried and true method at Lucasfilm of using puppetry and mechanics for realism rather than a CGI version of the character. One of the series stars, Werner Herzog was adamant the production team should ditch the idea of a contingency plan revolving around a CGI rendering of “The Child” for the series.

“It was a phenomenal achievement of sculpting mechanically. When I saw this, it was so convincing, it was so unique,” Herzog shared with The New York Times. “And then the producers talked about, ‘Shouldn’t we have a fallback version with green screen and have it be completely digitally created?’ I said to them: It would be cowardly. You are the trailblazers. Show the world what you can do.”

We got lots and lots of drawings,” shared show runner and creator Jon Favreau in the latest episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. “Some of them were too cute, some of them were too ugly, some of them were the wrong proportions.”

“It was finally that one image that Chris Alzmann did that had him wrapped up in what looked like a piece of a flight jacket or something,” the creator confessed. “And his eyes were a little weird, and he looked a little out of it, there was something a little off with it. But we found it charming, and that became the rallying image that we said, ‘This is good.’”

It did not take long after the premiere of the first episode of The Mandalorian in November 2019 for the world to fall in love with Baby Yoda. Favreau previously credited Disney and Lucasfilm with the success of the series after they refrained from spoiling the characters appearance with the release of themed merchandise until after the series premiere, a very uncommon practice now a days.

Do you agree keeping “Baby Yoda” secret was a good idea? Were you surprised by the reveal at the end of Episode 1? Have you been enjoying The Mandalorian on Disney+? What do you think of the original concept art? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Disney Annual Passholder Preview announced for Walt Disney World Theme Parks Reopening

Disney Annual Passholder Preview

Disney Annual Passholders were just sent an email about a special preview coming for Walt Disney World Theme Parks Reopening!

Let’s take a look:

Dear Valued Passholder,

In case you missed it, this week we shared some big news about Walt Disney World Resort, including plans to welcome Guests back to the Theme Parks as part of a phased reopening beginning July 11th.

We truly can’t wait to welcome our Passholders back! And we will do it with a great deal of thought. As we reopen, our phased approach will be a deliberate one with limits on attendance and density controls that align with expert guidance.

And so, to foster recommended physical distancing during this unprecedented time, we will soon be introducing a new Park reservation system and requiring all our Guests to make advance reservations for their Park visits.

We’ve put together some of the details of what this new system will mean to Passholders on our website. So please take the time to read this important update.

We truly value the role our Passholders play in making the Walt Disney World Resort experience so magical. And as our re-opening progresses, we are planning a special Passholder preview opportunity to access the magic.
Look for more information on reservations and this special Passholder preview to arrive soon.

And in the meantime, thank you for your patience during this time—and thank you for being one of our cherished Walt Disney World Annual Passholders.

Walt Disney World Resort

Please note:

  • During the limited capacity period, it may be difficult for Annual Passholders to get park reservations to visit on certain dates. To help manage capacity, total reservation days held at one time will be limited. More details will be shared in the coming weeks.
  • Some pass benefits and features will not be available during periods of limited capacity. Also, park experiences and offerings will be modified and subject to limited availability or even closure.
  • Annual passes are subject to blockout dates. Guests should ensure their pass type is valid for park entry prior to making a park reservation.

If you have any questions, please contact V.I.PASSHOLDER Support at (407) 939-7277. Options to manage your annual pass continue to be available during the closure period.

Disney World Full Time Cast Members can return to work with option to temporary transfer

Cast Members

Earlier this week, the Walt Disney Company submitted their reopening plans to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force. We now know Disney plans to have its Orlando theme parks return to business operations in July. Due to the unique nature of the phased reopening, Walt Disney World is offering all full-time Cast Members the option to voluntarily transfer to a temporary role.

The news was released by TCU Lodge 1908, which is a labor union for Walt Disney World Cast Members. The ability to transfer is reserved only for full-time Cast Members. Given the phased plans, the ability to transfer will assist Cast Members in returning to work sooner since they’re opening up Walt Disney World Resort in stages. To start, Disney Springs partially opened up in late May to success with the new health and social distancing guidelines. Now full-time Cast Members can look into new shifts and roles at Walt Disney World in July. For those interested, the labor union provided the following information on their TCU Lodge 1908 social media page.

Walt Disney World plans to reopen in July with the first part of their phased plan. Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom will open on July 11, 2020. Both Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will open on July 15, 2020. Walt Disney World is currently not taking dining reservations or allowing Fastpass plans, so it will be a different experience for guests visiting this summer.

No Cruises Allowed to Sail in Canada Through Oct

canada

In a press release Friday, the Canadian government announced that no cruise ships will be allowed to sail in Canada’s waters until October 31, 2020.

Canadian Minister of Transport, Marc Garneau, announced that cruise ships with overnight accommodations allowed to carry more than 100 persons are prohibited from operating in Canadian waters through October.

In March Canada banned all cruise ships that carried more than 500 people from docking at their ports until July 1st. That ban has now been revised and extended.

“Our Government is committed to protecting Canadians, particularly during these challenging times. It is for that reason I am announcing updated measures for cruise ships and other passenger vessels in Canada, which includes prohibiting larger cruise ships from operating in Canadian waters until October 31, 2020,” said Marc Garneau.

He continued, “Our Government continues to work with other levels of government, transportation industry stakeholders, and Indigenous peoples to re-examine measures and to ensure Canada’s transportation system remains safe and secure during this time. We are all in this together.”

Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wonder commonly sails through Canada on Alaskan, Pacific Coast, and Quebec sailings. This new policy will affect Disney Cruise Line sailings that were previously scheduled to sail through Canadian waters and visit Canadian ports. Disney has not announced any further cancellations but I’m sure that will happen soon.
