Backstage at the Balloon Room at the Magic Kingdom

Balloon room

It’s every Disney fan’s dream to get behind the scenes at Walt Disney World. Hence the proliferation of backstage-type tours and documentaries. We also, on rare and beautiful occasions, get an extra peek online. That is what happened when Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Photographer, Chloe Rice, decided to take her camera into the “balloon room” at Magic Kingdom park.

According to Rice, the balloon room is so full of balloons that it is hard to get the door closed behind you. Talk about a magical experience! Being surrounded by inflated Mickey heads, all different colors, almost like clouds in a Disney World sky. She brought lighting equipment and an assistant but ended up needing neither, as this beautiful photograph was a spur-of-the-moment capture; a moment never to be duplicated, and for some of us, only available to experience in photographic form.

Walt Disney World is known for many things, with balloons falling somewhere on the top of the list. For many families a trip wouldn’t be complete without the purchase of one of these floating memorabilia. Walking down Main Street would be lacking if a friendly Cast Member did not greet us with a mass of colorful Mickey heads bouquet-ed above them. How many times have we seen an iconic photo of someone borrowing those balloons to hold in front of the castle? Too many to count.

Rice has given us an uncommon glimpse into a version of Walt Disney World usually reserved for Cast Members. She has proven to us that, once again, Disney is every bit as magical behind the scenes.

Walt Disney’s Chris’s Cold Pie Recipe

lemon pie

As the weather warms up for the summer months, we’re looking for the best desserts to take to family gatherings. Walt Disney loved a special lemon chiffon pie that his grandson, Christopher Disney Miller, was allowed to name. He called it “Chris’s Cold Pie”. Check out the recipe below if you’d like to enjoy this delicious treat at home!

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1⁄2 cup lemon juice
  • 1⁄2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp. unflavored gelatin
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1⁄4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. grated lemon rind
  • 1 graham cracker crust (recipe on box)
  • Nutmeg

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, beat egg yolks with lemon juice and water just until combined.
  2. Mix gelatin, half the sugar and the salt in the top of a double boiler.
  3. Pour in egg yolk mixture, blending well.
  4. Cook, stirring constantly, over boiling water (water should not touch top section of double boiler) until gelatin dissolves and mixture thickens.
  5. Remove top from boiling water. Stir in lemon rind.
  6. Let set 20 minutes in a bowl filled with ice cubes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Remove from ice when mixture thickens enough to mound when dropped from a spoon.
  8. Meanwhile, beat egg whites (at room temperature) in a large bowl until soft peaks form when beater is raised.
  9. Gradually add remaining sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time, beating well after each addition.
  10. Continue beating until stiff peaks form when batter is raised.
  11. Gently fold gelatin mixture into egg whites just until combined.
  12. Turn into pie crust. Dust top with nutmeg and chill several hours. (If desired, omit nutmeg and serve topped with whipped cream.)

Have you tried Chris’s Cold Pie before? Let us know how you liked it!

Sanderson Sisters Funko POP! Figures

Sanderson Sisters Funko POP

All three of our favorite witchy sisters will take flight as new Funko POP! figures this year. We all loved the Hocus Pocus Cauldron Funko POP movie moment design from last Halloween! These are available now for pre-order from Entertainment Earth, so we won’t miss out! Each POP figure is sold separately and retails for $12.99.

This year’s figures are inspired by the moment the Sanderson Sisters take flight on a broom, vacuum, and mop! Yup, each one comes with the same accessory they flew on in the movie. The figures also come on clear stands, so they look like they are floating in midair.

Passholders are being emailed invites to the reopening of Universal Studios Florida

 Universal Studios Florida

Emails are being sent out to Annual Passholders inviting them to experience the awesomeness of Universal Studios Florida before they open to the general public on June 5th!

Here are the details…

Welcome Home Passholders

We’re reopening! And you’re invited to be among the very first to come enjoy the awesomeness before Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Universal’s Volcano Bay open to the general public on June 5th. Special Passholder experiences will be announced soon.

As we have previously shared, your Pass will automatically have the number of days we were closed added to the end of your term. We will be sending out communication with additional details about how your expiration date is impacted and when FlexPay monthly payments will resume, if applicable.

This carefully managed reopening comes with stringent new health, safety and hygiene procedures in place. So, as we enjoy our parks and hotels together again, everyone will need to follow CDC guidelines and the recommendations of health officials, and Universal Orlando’s policies.

Yes, there are more rules to follow now—but to play together, we also need to work together for the safety and health of all our guests and team members.

Note that any public location where people are present provides an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 and we cannot guarantee that you will not be exposed during your visit.
