Cirque du Soleil Files for Bankruptcy due to COVID-19

Cirque du Soleil Files for Bankruptcy due to COVID-19

Cirque du Soleil Files for Bankruptcy due to COVID-19

The Montreal-based company made the announcement earlier today blaming its bankruptcy on the “immense disruption and forced show closures as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic” and is aiming to restructure its debt with assistance from the Canadian government and private equity firms.

Cirque Du Soleil suspended the Disney Springs’ “Drawn To Life” back in March along with their other shows around the globe while laying off 95% of their workforce.

Cirque entered a “stalking horse” bid from its largest backers, including a mix of multinational private equity firms from the United States, China and Canada for $20 million. That offer is intended to be a starting point in an auction to draw other bidders.

As part of the investment, government body Investissement Québec will provide $200 million in debt financing.

“For the past 36 years, Cirque du Soleil has been a highly successful and profitable organization. However, with zero revenues since the forced closure of all of our shows due to COVID-19, management had to act decisively to protect the Company’s future,” President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group Daniel Lamarre said.

The company said in a release The Land of Fantasy show will continue in China, but all other performances at other locations will be rescheduled including Cirque du Soleil’s Drawn to Life show at Disney Springs.

“Performances will resume once the pandemic is under control, pending an easing in government lockdowns and travel restrictions, and in accordance with the new corporate structure in place,” a spokesperson said.

Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner, and ‘Juno’ Director Secretly Organize A ‘The Princess Bride’ Remake for Charity

Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner, and ‘Juno’ Director Secretly Organize A ‘The Princess Bride’ Remake for Charity

Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner, and ‘Juno’ Director Secretly Organize A ‘The Princess Bride’ Remake for Charity. Joe Jonas (The Jonas Brothers, Camp Rock) and wife, Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones, X-Men: Dark Phoenix) decided to spend some of their time in quarantine secretly filming a ‘The Princess Bride‘ “remake” in gender swapped roles to help raise funds for World Central Kitchen after being contacted by Juno director, Jason Reitman.

“World Central Kitchen is working across America to safely distribute individually packaged, fresh meals in communities that need support – for children and families to pick up and take home, as well as delivery to seniors who cannot venture outside. WCK is now active in dozens of cities providing over 250,000 fresh meals every day. Traditional safety nets like school feeding programs, city services, and food banks are struggling to meet basic needs. Seniors, who are isolated for their safety, are unable to access meal services. Meanwhile, the country’s hospital workers are more stretched than ever before. WCK is also now activating restaurants to help meet this demand by providing jobs for their staff and meals for those in need. #ChefsForAmerica is making a key connection between people who need meals and restaurant workers and drivers who need to earn a living.”

The celebrity couple is known for their series on Quibi, a short video streaming service, and decided to make the most of their newfound downtime to create some fun content while helping those in need.

Joe and Sophie are not the only celebrities to get in on the project. Jonas, Turner, and Reitman recruited fellow entertainers: Common and Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, Chris Pine and Annabelle Wallis, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, Elijah Wood, Jon Hamm, Beanie Feldstein, Lucas Hedges, Jenna Ortega, Jack Black, David Oyelowo, Keegan-Michael Key, Patton Oswalt, Josh Gad, Andy Serkis, Diego Luna, Taika Waititi and Zazie Beetz to join in on the fun and completed their own scenes from the film.

DVC Moonlight Magic events cancelled for 2020

DVC Moonlight Magic events cancelled for 2020 Moonlight Magic

The Walt Disney company released an update to let DVC members know that the rest of this year’s Moonlight Magic events will be canceled. Disney Vacation Members were notified months ago that the previous Moonlight Magic event nights would be delayed until this summer. The rescheduled dates were listed for the months of June through August, but now Disney confirms how we won’t see the DVC events return at all for 2020.

We have attended some of these Moonlight Magic events in the past and they were quite a blast! You can read the following description to see what was offered during these DVC events:

Enjoy an evening of enchantment, entertainment and more as a theme park becomes your playground.

During a Moonlight Magic event, Members can visit a select theme park for an after-hours celebration. While attendees may get a jump start on the fun by mixing in with the regular crowd earlier in the evening, the real magic happens after the park has closed to the public.

It’s then that privileged partiers can:

  • Enjoy shorter-than-usual wait times on popular attractions
  • Meet some Disney Characters
  • Savor complimentary refreshments
  • Let loose at high-energy dance parties

Hopefully we will return to see these event nights in 2021!
