The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, A New Book with an Exclusive Look at the Land’s Creation, Announced at San Diego Comic-Con

I am very excited to share that today, as part of Comic-Con @ Home, a new book was announced – The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! Providing an exclusive look at the visual development behind Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, this large-format book showcases much of the amazing concept art and design that ultimately defined the immersive lands. Featuring never before seen artwork – as well as exclusive interviews about the land’s creation – from artists at Walt Disney Imagineering, Lucasfilm and many others, this book offers an inside look at what goes into making an immersive Star Wars destination.

The land’s rich storytelling provided a great opportunity for exclusive commentary from many of the key creative minds involved in bringing Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to life. This behind-the-scenes look at our creative process, combined with hundreds of full-color concept artworks, sketches, blueprints, photographs, and more, is what makes this book about dreaming up and creating Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge so special.

I’m also happy to share that this book was authored by the talented Amy Ratcliffe, managing editor of Nerdist and author of Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy. You also may know Amy as a Star Wars Celebration host, and for her regular contributions to IGN, StarWars.com and Star Wars Insider.   And, I am honored to have been asked to write the foreword!

I can’t wait for you to check out The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge when it hits shelves in Spring 2021. It’s another way to live the land’s rich stories both inside and outside the Disney parks, and the only way to see the art and innovations that led to the land’s creation documented in one place!

#DisneyParksStyle: Recognizing Walt Disney World Resort’s Reopening

I couldn’t help but to gear up in my favorite Disney Parks-themed apparel and accessories this week in honor of Walt Disney World Resort. So, I partnered with some of my friends on Instagram to share their favorite looks inspired by the resort’s four Theme Parks as seen on shopDisney.com. Check out the best of the best:

Magic Kingdom Park:

Nothing says Magic Kingdom like Main Street U.S.A.! @dapperonthedaily donned the Disney Parks Americana Collection to showcase their Magic Kingdom pride at home! My favorite way to feel like I’m walking right down the middle of Main Street U.S.A.? Singing along at the top of my lungs to one of the Dapper Dans’ classic tunes!

No trip to the Magic Kingdom is complete without a ride on the most beloved attractions! @abbycorkins embraced her inner skipper honoring the world famous Jungle Cruise! My favorite? Taking a wild ride aboard Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (check out this special ride & learn video and take a virtual spin at home!).

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park:

Embrace your wild side like @erykaendlessmagic who rocked an animal print ensemble in honor of one of my favorite parks, Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

Or if you’re an aspiring wilderness explorer, check out some inspiration from @thewdwcouple! Then get adventurous and take a virtual ride aboard Expedition Everest! 

EPCOT:

Excited for “A Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival?” Join Disney foodie, @disneyhungry for a look inspired by tasty treats and summer sun then whip up your favorite EPCOT eats like the popular, Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup from Le Cellier Steakhouse!

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been dreaming of a trip around the world… World Showcase that is! @carolinagrabova and family captured that perfectly in these retro EPCOT-inspired looks! Get in the mood with some jams from Mariachi Cobre! 

Disney’s Hollywood Studios:

“Nothing can stop us now!” Join @randomly_riley and family for an amazing ensemble of looks inspired by Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway and really get into the Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ mood with a PB&J shake from 50’s Prime Time Café!

Disney Springs:

Disney Springs is the perfect place to stroll and unwind! @asekyb and family rocked their Neon Summer-best in honor of the shopping and dining destination. Top off the experience with everyone’s favorite sweet treat, churros!

@magicandwishes is ready for some fresh air and sunshine at Disney Springs in a colorful dip dye spirit jersey, perfect for a summer day! What’s better on a summer day than Dole Whip? Dole Whip Nachos, of course!

#DisneyMagicMoments: Adventures at Home – Iceland

Welcome to the next chapter of “Adventures at Home,” a series that brings you customized at-home experiences inspired by some of our most popular Adventures by Disney destinations. Today we say “Velkominn” to Iceland as we virtually explore the majestic natural wonders, local traditions and culinary flair of this vibrant Nordic nation.

1. Discover the Land of Fire and Ice

Iceland’s unique landscape has been adorned with imposing waterfalls, otherworldly valleys, monumental glaciers and stunning volcanoes. Experience the breathtaking sights of the land of fire and ice with this virtual tour featuring highlights from Adventures by Disney. TIP: Many streaming devices and smart TVs allow you to mirror your smart device/computer and play videos directly on the big screen.

2. Nordic Fun

You can always count on the Adventure Guides to have the ultimate toolkit for fun and entertaining. Here is an exciting family game that will test your guessing abilities, with an Icelandic twist. Just print this game guide and get ready to identify the animals, places and things you can encounter while adventuring in Iceland!

3. Geyser Bread!

Iceland’s unique rúgbrauð is a dark rye bread cooked by placing the dough into covered pots and burying them near geothermal springs. The steam from the springs does the baking and the result is a dense, almost cake-like loaf of bread that tastes a bit like caramel. We know most of us don’t have a geothermal spring handy but one of our Icelandic Adventure Guides shared a hack to make this delicious doughy goodness at home. #DisneyMagicMoments: Adventures at Home – Iceland Geyser bread (Rúgbrauð)

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup rye flour
  • 1/3 Cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 Tsp baking powder
  • ½ Tsp baking soda
  • 1 ¼ Cups of buttermilk
  • 5 Tbsp golden syrup 
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F, and line and grease a 1 Lb loaf pan
  2. Mix all the ingredients with a spoon until you reach a similar consistency to oatmeal
  3. Pour mix into a loaf pan and cover loosely with foil (the dough will rise so give the foil a dome shape)
  4. Place in the oven and lower the heat to 225 degrees F
  5. Bake for 7 hours
  6. Remove from the oven and cool
4. Icelandic Legends!

Iceland has a rich history of folklore and legends. Throughout our itinerary, Adventure Guides regale adventurers with entertaining tales of trolls, elves and hidden people that inhabit the majestic and mysterious landscapes of this Nordic island. Our friends from Disney Family shared instructions to create a delicious treat inspired by the magical stone trolls from Frozen. Fun fact: Iceland influenced the visual design and the story of Frozen 2.

#DisneyMagicMoments Update: Cast Member Behind Popular At-Home Kilimanjaro Safaris Video Back Making Magic at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park

If you’ve been following our #DisneyMagicMoments, then you know Disney cast member Katelyn and her extraordinary at-home recreation of Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park.  Months ago, Katelyn led a creative tour of the Harambe Wildlife Reserve simply to make people smile at home.

Now, Katelyn is back – creating magic for visiting guests at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park.  And during the recent reopening of the park, she enjoyed her own magical moment with a surprise meeting with Disney Chief Executive Officer Bob Chapek.  It’s a moment Katelyn will never forget!

Katelyn also told us during our latest edition of #DisneyCastLife that she’s grateful her video entertained so many people but she’s really overjoyed to be back greeting and educating guests in the park.  Katelyn said, “I came back and I was like, ahh, I’m home!”

Now more than ever, friendships both near and far are an important part of our lives as much as staying true to ourselves. Today, we are thrilled to share an all-new global celebration called Mickey & Friends: Stay True inspired by the Sensational Six — Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto — and their iconic friendships. Countless adventures and almost a century’s worth of milestones and friendship have cemented the Sensational Six as a symbol of loyalty, kindness and hope around the world.
