Characters Details Released for ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Kids’ Reboot, ‘Shrunk’

Characters Details Released for ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Kids’ Reboot, ‘Shrunk.’ Fans of the late 80’s early 90’s ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Kids’ franchise were elated to hear that Disney is making another sequel to the iconic films and in more exciting news,  Rick Moranis will be coming out of retirement from acting to reprise his role as Wayne Szalinski, who accidentally shrunk his children and two of his neighbors children in the famous original film released in 1989.

The new film is simply called “Shrunk” and will take place decades after the events of the original film. Set to direct the film is Joe Johnston, with David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman producing and Todd Rosenberg penning the script.

SPOILER ALERT: This post contains details about the film that may spoil some portions of the storyline. STOP READING NOW if you wish to remain spoiler free before seeing Shrunk. Thank you!

We now have some character details regarding the film, but most major plot details are still unknown at this time. With that being said, it’s a safe bet the Szalinski’s are about to become VERY small once again… Check out the character details shared by CBR below:

Nick Szalinski (Josh Gad): Wayne’s son, who is now a husband to Fay and father to two children, Maddie and Theo. Nick still has PTSD from the hijinks of the original film and the resulting demise of his mom. He’s a bundle of nerves, dissatisfied and uneasy, with a propensity to pamper his children.

Maddie Szalinski: Nick’s oldest child. She has her grandpa’s knack for peculiar creations, showing them off without anyone else’s permission on her Youtube channel to a little crowd.

Theo Szalinski: The opposite of athletic, with glasses and a little on the heavy side. He’s a tentative, masochist self-tormentor who has predicted his passing in a huge number of situations. He’s prohibited from eating sweets due to a slight weight complex.

Amy Szalinski: Nick’s carefree and energetic, more established sister, who took a different path from Nick after their mother’s death and chose not to put down roots. Instead, she enjoys her life working for a magazine and homeschooling her girls.

Wayne Szalinski (Rick Moranis): Mindful that the family ties have worsened over time, but apparently hesitant to go up against anybody straightforwardly. He has been tinkering alone in his attic for a considerable length of time, managing the sadness of losing his wife. At the point when we initially meet him, he has inadvertently shrunk himself and is flying around in a similarly tiny drone, continuing the vicious cycle of experimentation that has placed his family in danger plenty of times.

The ULTIMATE GUIDE To ALL The Disney Live Action Films Being Made NOW!

Whether you love Disney’s live-action remakes or you can do without them, one thing is certain: they aren’t going away anytime soon! It seems that within the next few years, there will be hardly any Disney animated films left that have not been translated into a live-action counterpart.

The Lion King ©Disney

Here is the full list of films, which includes completed projects set for a theatrical release as well as films that are still in the development phase!

Mulan

The next live-action remake to hit theaters is Mulan. Based on the 1998 animated film, this remake was originally slated to debut on March 27.

©Walt Disney Studios

Due to the current global health crisis, it was delayed until July 24.

Cruella

We got a first look at Cruella at the D23 Expo in 2019! This reimagining of the classic villain Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians will take place in 1970s London, complete with a pop-rock soundtrack.

©Walt Disney Studios

The film stars Emma Stone as Cruella as well as Emma Thompson.

The Little Mermaid

A live-action remake of The Little Mermaid is currently in development! This film will star singer Halle Bailey as Ariel.

©Walt Disney Studios

No additional casting has yet to be announced, but what we DO know in addition to Bailey starring is that the film will be directed by Rob Marshall, and Lin-Manuel Miranda (also one of the film’s producers!) will join forces with Alan Menken on the film’s score.

Robin Hood

We can also expect a live-action remake of Robin Hood! This film won’t see a theatrical release however — it will debut on Disney+.

©Disney

The project will be directed by Blindspotting director Carlos Lopez Estrada, and Lady and the Tramp writer Kari Granlund will pen the script! Casting has yet to be announced.

Hercules

The most recent official announcement we heard concerning a live-action remake was for Hercules! In the announcement, we heard that there are some Marvel alumni attached to this project. The Russo Brothers are set to produce the film, and Shang-Chi writer Dave Callaham will work on the screenplay.

©Walt Disney Studios

Casting has yet to be announced and this film is currently in pre-production.

Peter Pan & Wendy

A NEW live-action Peter Pan film is in the works! According to Variety, Peter Pan will be portrayed by Alexander Molony, and Wendy will be played by Ever Anderson. Pete’s Dragon director David Lowery is this film’s director and he will also pen the screenplay alongside Toby Halbrooks.

Peter Pan and Captain Hook Topiaries in Epcot

There are some reports suggesting that this film may go straight to Disney+ like Lady and the Tramp and Robin Hood, but that has yet to be confirmed!

The Jungle Book sequel

A follow-up to the successful live-action/CGI hybrid remake of The Jungle Book is in the works!

Mowgli and Balloo!

The film is set to bring back director Jon Favreau and will have a screenplay by Justin Marks. No casting has been confirmed yet.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

“Heigh-ho, heigh-ho,” it’s off to the movie theaters we go when the live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premieres!

Snow White!

The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb is the director of this project, along with screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson writing the script! No casting or release date has been announced yet.

Lilo and Stitch

A couple of years ago, it was announced that a live-action/CGI hybrid remake of Lilo and Stitch was in the works.

Experiment 626

Currently, Mike Van Waes is attached as a writer on the film, and Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are set as the film’s producers.

Bambi

Perhaps not FULLY “live-action,” we can most likely expect a Bambi remake to more closely resemble The Lion King with its photo-realistic CGI. Will we be able to endure losing Bambi’s Mother in high-def CGI? We’ll have to wait and see!

Bambi!

No release date has been announced yet, but what we DO know, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is Captain Marvel screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet, along with Lindsey Beer, will pen the script.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

David Henry Hwang will write the screenplay of this live-action tale in Paris, and the voice of Olaf, Josh Gad, is attached as one of the film’s producers!

©Disney

Will we see Gad appear in the film as well? Only time will tell as no casting has been announced!

Aladdin sequel

Can you believe it’s already been one year since the release of the live-action remake of Aladdin? And it looks like the film’s creators already have their sights set on a sequel! While this project is still in its early development phase, we know that John Gatins and Andrea Berloff are penning the script.

©Disney

We don’t know at this time if any of the cast from the first film will be reprising their roles. There is also an untitled Aladdin spin-off reportedly in the works for Disney+.

The Sword in the Stone

A live-action remake of The Sword in the Stone is currently in the works for Disney+!

Sword in the Stone Float in Magic Happens

The film is set to be directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and will feature a script by Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman!

Pinocchio

And finally, there’s the live-action remake of Pinocchio in the works. This film is still in its development phase, but there are some big names attached to this film!

Blue Fairy Mural

It is set to be directed by legendary film director Robert Zemeckis. He is also set to be one of the film’s screenwriters, along with Chris Weitz.

Whew, that’s a LOT of live-action films in the works! We’ll keep you updated as any casting news or release dates are announced for these films!

Which of these live-action remakes are you most excited to see? Let us know in the comments!

Muppets Now to Premiere July 31st on Disney+

Muppets Now Disney+

This morning, as part of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+’s celebration of National #StreamingDay, Disney+ announced the new original series “Muppets Now” will premiere July 31 on the service. Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and the gang joined in the fun sharing their own unique spin on the series.

Muppets Now

“Muppets Now” is The Muppets Studio’s first original series for Disney+. In the six-episode season, Scooter rushes to make his delivery deadlines and upload the brand-new Muppet series for streaming. They are due now, and he’ll need to navigate whatever obstacles, distractions, and complications the rest of the Muppet gang throws at him.

Overflowing with spontaneous lunacy, surprising guest stars and more frogs, pigs, bears (and whatevers) than legally allowed, the Muppets cut loose in “Muppets Now” with the kind of startling silliness and heartfelt fun that first made them famous.

Here are some fun tweets from the Muppets reacting to today’s announcement.

Oh, we went with THAT #MuppetsNow key art? I’ve got something way funnier! Get it? KEY art? Ahhhhh! #WockaWocka! pic.twitter.com/vqG2hRRBnI

— Fozzie Bear (@FozzieBear) May 20, 2020

Wait, I thought we were going with this #MuppetsNow key art! Didn’t we all agree it needs more chickens?? And more exploding socks… and, of course, lava spiders. pic.twitter.com/8egBdUNd8K

— Gonzo (@GonzotheGreat) May 20, 2020

Who chose these distinctly un-groovy options for #MuppetsNow key art? Let’s go with something way more far out… and with way more Animal! pic.twitter.com/d57NES7vbV

— Electric Mayhem (@ElectricMayhem) May 20, 2020

Dr. Bunsen Honeydew here. My research shows that using this #MuppetsNow art would yield impressive results. After all, it was created by Muppet Labs, where the future of key art is being made today! pic.twitter.com/uYuOatQ9zB

— The Muppets (@TheMuppets) May 20, 2020

Dios mio, you gotta be kidding me! No Pepé in any of this #MuppetsNow key art?? Unbelievable, okay! Lucky for you, I’ve mastered Photoshop after watching one video on YouTubes. See for yourself… pic.twitter.com/WM9sSn4RFz

— Pepé the King Prawn (@SpicyPrawn) May 20, 2020

Puh-lease! We all know why people will watch #MuppetsNow, so why hide it? Ta-da! Some perfectly chic, simply stunning, positively MOI key art! pic.twitter.com/R49u1q2Fco

— Miss Piggy (@MissPiggy) May 20, 2020

Good grief. Sorry about this, @DisneyPlus. Don’t worry, we love the #MuppetsNow key art! Though, if you’re looking for my suggestion, I was always partial to this one… I cleaned my banjo right before the photo was taken. pic.twitter.com/xZBlqDb777
