Disney World to present reopening plans to Orange County Wednesday

Walt Disney World officials will be presenting reopening plans to Orange County’s economic recovery task force tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27th.

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said Tuesday that Disney is slated to make their presentation about reopening during the 10 a.m. meeting Wednesday. Demings also said two health officials with the county were at the theme parks on Tuesday conducting inspections.

“Walt Disney World will submit a proposal tomorrow, May 27, to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force in Florida for a phased reopening of the resort’s theme parks,” Disney said in a statement Tuesday.

If the task force approves Disney’s reopening plans tomorrow, it will go to the mayor. Once the mayor signs off, it will be sent to Governor Ron DeSantis for approval.

We can’t wait to find out what Disney’s plans are for reopening Disney World!

Tokyo Disneyland’s Shopping District to Reopen on June 1st

tokyo disney

Tokyo Disneyland‘s shopping and dining district, Ikspiari, announced it will be reopening June 1st. Located near the entrance to Tokyo Disneyland, Ikspiari is the Japanese equivalent of Downtown Disney or Disney Springs.

The Japanese government recently announced that it would be releasing the state of emergency for Tokyo which is allowing Ikspiari and other businesses to reopen.

While most of the Tokyo Disney Resort remains closed, measures will be taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to promote the safety and security of employees and customers at Ikspiari.

  • Not all businesses will be open. Businesses that are open will be restricted to 11AM-7PM.
  • Temperatures will be checked upon entry. Anyone with a temperature above 37.5 degrees Celsius will not be admitted.
  • Entry may be restricted during high-traffic hours.
  • Only the following entrances will be open:
First Floor – Clock Tower Plaza, The Courtyard
    Second Floor – Maihama Station
  • Cinema Ikspiari’s ticket booth will operate from 11AM-6:30PM. No late-night shows will be offered.
  • The Tokyo Disney Resort Ticket Center will remain closed for the time being.

The Tokyo Disney Resort and Ikspiari are owned and operated by Oriental Land Company, not Disney. However, this reopening could mark a step towards reopening Tokyo Disneyland.

Disneyland can Reopen Under Phase 3 Guidelines as Early as June

disneyland

According to California officials and The Orange County Register, Disneyland and other theme parks can now reopen in Phase 3 of the state’s reopening plan.

“Theme parks are slated to open in Stage 3 if the rate of spread of COVID-19 and hospitalizations remain stable,” according to California Health and Human Services Agency spokesperson Kate Folmar.

California Governor Newsom says Phase 3 could begin in June.

“Phase 3 is not a year away. It’s not six months away. It’s not even three months away. It may not even be more than a month away,” Newsom said during a daily press briefing in mid-May. “We just want to make sure we have a protocol in place to secure customer safety, employee safety and allow the businesses to thrive in a way that is sustainable.”

Disneyland and other California theme parks are among the “higher risk” businesses and gatherings that would reopen in Stage 3 with adaptations and limits on the size of gatherings.

The state will work with theme parks on developing COVID-19 health and safety reopening plans.

There is no set date for when Phase 3 will begin and no California theme parks have submitted reopening plans yet.

News! Disneyland Could Potentially Reopen in Less Than a Month, Says California Officials

While several Florida-based theme parks including Universal Orlando have or will be resuming their operations soon, state officials have just announced if the situation remains stable, California’s theme parks will be permitted to reopen in Phase Three which could be starting as early as June.

Disneyland Resort

This includes major attractions such as Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood along with Knott’s Berry Farm, Six Flags Magic Mountain, SeaWorld San Diego, Legoland California, and other theme parks.

Just a day ago, California’s Orange County met the required criteria and was cleared to transition into a “full stage two” of California’s reopening plan.

Previously, some counties had been allowed to resume “limited services” at some retail locations, allowing curbside pickup and outdoor museums to operate. Since yesterday, counties are now able to make their own decisions regarding reopening in-store retail as long as certain safety measures and precautions are being taken into consideration.

As reported by the Orange County Register, California is now starting to shape Phase Three of its gradually unfolding plan, including when we might expect it to happen.

“Phase 3 is not a year away. It’s not six months away. It’s not even three months away. It may not even be more than a month away,” California Governor Gavin Newsom said. “We just want to make sure we have a protocol in place to secure customer safety, employee safety, and allow the businesses to thrive in a way that is sustainable.”

According to California Health and Human Services Agency spokesperson Kate Folmar, “The California Department of Public Health will issue detailed guidance with suggested modifications for how to minimize the risk of COVID-19 spread when theme parks reopen.”

Disneyland Main Entrance – Closed

In addition to California’s theme parks reopening as early as next month, other “higher risk” businesses including salons, gyms, movie theaters, sporting events, and religious ceremonies are also being discussed with limited capacity and several modifications. We’ll continue to follow this story as it develops.
