Saudi Arabia’s Investment Fund Buys Five Million Shares in The Walt Disney Company

Disney theme parks around the world have been closed for months. Shanghai Disneyland recently broke the theme park stand-still by re-opening, but Disney has not yet announced when the rest of the parks will re-open.

Shanghai Disneyland

In the wake of the closures, The Walt Disney Company furloughed employees and has been taking on debt to protect its financial future. Analysts recommended accepting equity agreements instead of additional lines of credit and Saudi Arabia’s public investment fund just offered Disney this opportunity.

Disney recently estimated a revenue loss of close to $1 billion due to the closures, and last week the company took on additional loans totaling $11 billion dollars.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, analysts advise companies impacted by the closures, like Disney and AMC, to accept investments over cashing out more loans.

AMC Theater in Disney Springs

Moody’s analyst Neil Begley stated “It would be a welcome investment from a debt perspective to see some of these companies that are more dramatically affected bring in some equity rather than just bringing [on] lots of debt, particularly some of the larger-cap media names like Disney and ViacomCBS.”

Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom

He went on to say, “I just can’t say whether or not the folks at Disney would be willing to entertain issuing equity at this juncture. But for some of these companies that have an uncertain horizon at this time, it certainly would be prudent, particularly for their credit ratings.”

Disney World Monorail

Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, named the Public Investment Fund, recently shared their acquisitions –which included shares in The Walt Disney Company, Facebook, Starbucks, and more.

The fund purchased over five million shares in Disney which translate to a value of almost $500 million. Even though these shares are just a drop in the bucket of the whole company, the investment comes at an unprecedented time for the Disney company.

Cinderella Castle

The Public Investment Fund’s investment in Disney comes after its sizable purchases in Live Nation, Carnival Cruises, Tesla, and Uber since the start of 2020. The fund also boosted its number of shares in 23 other companies such as IBM, Boeing, ADP, Bank of America, and Marriott totaling more than $10 billion of equity in the U.S. market.

Which sector of business do you think will have the biggest impact on The Disney Company during the closures? Let us know in the comments!

What to EAT at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom Lodge!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of our FAVORITE resort hotels when it comes to all things FOOD.

Animal Kingdom Lodge

There are some simply incredible restaurants here to choose from and we totally recommend you check this resort out, even if you aren’t staying here!

Victoria Falls Lounge

We’re going to be starting our Animal Kingdom Lodge food tour today at Victoria Falls Lounge. This is located right alongside Boma. You’ll typically find guests here enjoying a beverage or a light snack while they wait for their reservation for Boma, but we think it’s worth a trip all on its own!

Victoria Falls Lounge at Animal Kingdom Lodge

Since it’s so close to Boma and Jiko, you’ll typically find drinks at Victoria Falls that you can also order at these table service restaurants. So, if you can’t get a reservation, you can still enjoy the beverages! One of our favorites is the Victoria Falls Mist.

Victoria Falls Mist

Note that this drink, which takes its name from the bar, has recently disappeared from the menu. But since it was kind of the “go-to” drink at this location, we suspect the bartenders are happy to still mix it up if it is, indeed, gone from the menu. This is a very light and refreshing beverage, which mixes Van der Hum Tangerine Liqueur, Melon and Banana Liqueurs, Sweet-and-Sour, and Sprite.

Pool Bars: Maji Pool Bar and Uzima Springs Pool Bar

Each of the resorts’ two main sections, Jambo House and Kidani Village, have their own pool bar so guests can sip on a refreshing beverage on a hot Florida day. The Maji Pool Bar is located in Kidani Village…

Maji Pool Bar

…while the Uzima Springs Pool Bar is located at Jambo House!

Uzima Springs Pool Bar

Both bars are great spots to relax on your day off from the parks and enjoy a cold beverage or two. The best part about these quiet pool bars is that you DON’T have to be a guest at Animal Kingdom Lodge to stop by! On our last visit, we sipped on the Safari Mudslide.

Safari Mudslide

These bars are known to switch up their seasonal specialties often, making it a new experience every time we visit!

The Mara

The Mara is our next stop on our Animal Kingdom Lodge tour. This will be your “to go” stop for quick breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

The Mara Menu

But don’t let the “fast-casual” label fool you: this is a GEM when it comes to tasty Disney food, especially desserts!

The Mara Dessert Menu

One of our favorite desserts is the Zebra Domes! These are the same beloved desserts that can be found at Boma but you can get THESE without a table service reservation! These little domes pack some massive flavor with an Amarula Cream Liquor mousse filling, sponge cake base, and white chocolate coating.

Zebra Domes

Another favorite treat of ours is the Nyala Brownie.

Nyala Brownie

BONUS POINTS for this treat coming in a Mickey shape! This peanut butter brownie has taken on many forms over the years, and has disappeared and reappeared a few times. You get a dense, fudgy brownie with a metric ton of peanut butter frosting on top. It’s pretty amazing.

Nyala Brownie

If you see it in the display case, GRAB IT! You’ll be glad you did.

Sanaa

We’re moving on now to the three main table service restaurants in Animal Kingdom Lodge. All three of these restaurants offer free behind-the-scenes tours, giving guests a glimpse at the inspiration behind and design of the three restaurants. Definitely worth considering even if you don’t have a reservation at that restaurant! The first of the table service restaurants we’ll talk about is Sanaa.

Sanaa

Located in Kidani Village, this table service lunch and dinner location also serves up a counter-service breakfast!

Lunch Menu at Sanaa

If you dine at Sanaa for lunch or dinner, you will be in for an amazing experience — the windows overlook the Savanna with animals walking by as you dine! If you want the very best views of the Savanna, we recommend you make a lunch reservation so you can see the animals in full daylight. Once it gets dark, it’s tougher to spot the critters outside!

Animal Kingdom Lodge Savanna

There are a few standout menu items we have to mention! The first is the Bread Service. We feel like we’ve told everyone we know about this must-try app. This is a standout dish at Sanaa, complete with Indian Naan bread and an assortment of flavorful dips!

Sanaa Bread Service

The dips that you can choose from include Red Chile Sambal, Cucumber Raita, Coriander Chutney, Mango Chutney, Coconut Chutney, Garlic Pickle, Spicy Jalapeño-Lime Pickle, Roasted Red Bell Pepper Hummus, or Tamarind Chutney. Can’t decide? YOU CAN GET THEM ALL (totally what we always do!).

Bread Service Accompaniments

OF COURSE, we have to mention their ridiculously good Butter Chicken! We like to call this dish “heaven in a bowl” because it is jam-packed with SO much flavor! It’s traditionally a combination of butter, cream, tomato puree, garam masala, and other spices, resulting in a super-rich but super delicious meal. It can be ordered as a sort of sampler entree where you choose one item from a list of meat and seafood simmered dishes, including Butter Chicken, one choice from a variety of vegetarian slow-cooked options, as well as a bowl of Basmati Rice.

It’s seriously the standout entree and we have to fight with ourselves EVERY time we go to Sanaa to try other things on the menu (but our hearts will forever and always belong to the Butter Chicken).

Butter Chicken

And for dessert, we’re giving ALL of the gold stars to the Spice Trade Candy Bar.

Spice Road Candy Bar

We’ve had BAD “candy bars” at other restaurants, but this one is a sure winner — it’s a Coconut, Apricot, Caramel, Pistachio, and Cashew Bar covered in Milk Chocolate, and topped with Chai Cream, Pistachio Crumb, and Apricot Gelee. Whew! Think of it as the most luxurious Snickers Bar you’ll ever eat.

Boma

Our final two restaurants are both in the Jambo House section of Animal Kingdom Lodge. First up is Boma! This buffet-style restaurant is a fan-favorite and offers some really unique African-inspired eats.

Boma

Their breakfast buffet is a fun mix of traditional American-style dishes as well as African dishes!

Breakfast Pastries from one of our favorite buffets — Boma in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge!

Some of the more African-inspired breakfast options include Turkey Bobotie. For the kiddos, there are Simba & Nala waffles, and we love their goat cheese scrambled eggs and pecan praline bread pudding!

Lion King Waffles at Boma

For lunch and dinner, everyone in your party should find something they’ll fall in love with! They have a delicious rotating assortment of soups, including butternut squash soup and chicken corn chowder.

Boma Mulligatawny Soup

There should be multiple varieties for you to choose from when you dine!

Soup’s on at Boma!

While this buffet appeals to those with a more adventurous palette, there are plenty of options for pickier eaters too, especially the kiddos who will find plenty of ‘mainstream’ options (things like spaghetti, chicken nuggies, and mac and cheese, of course!).

Another reason why we love eating at Boma is their Jungle Juice! Also known as POG Juice, this Disney World classic beverage appears in multiple resorts under various aliases (it’s known as Moonshine over at Trail’s End restaurant at Disney’s Ft. Wilderness Resort!).

Jungle Juice…or POG Juice…or Moonshine…

For dessert, this is another location in Animal Kingdom Lodge where you can get ZEBRA DOMES!

Zebra Dome at Boma

So if you missed out on grabbing some over at The Mara, you can get your fill at Boma!

Jiko

Last but CERTAINLY not least is Jiko. This is a signature restaurant, meaning that if you’re on the Disney Dining Plan, you’ll be redeeming two of your table service credits here as opposed to just one per person. If you’re paying out of pocket, be prepared to dig a little deeper into those pockets here! This is a truly special dining experience.

Gorgeous Lighting at Jiko Mellows Through the Evening to Mimic the African Sunset

Jiko gives off a much more romantic vibe than Sanaa and Boma, making this a perfect spot for date night!

Jiko Menu

If you aren’t looking for a full meal but still want to experience Jiko, you may be interested in their wine tastings! Did you know that Animal Kingdom Lodge is home to the largest selection of South African wines outside of South Africa? That means there’s PLENTY of African wine to try here, especially if you book a reservation for their Wine Tasting.

Jiko Wine Tasting Room

Offered every Wednesday, you get to sample a trio of wines selected by the sommeliers at Jiko. Reservations are highly recommended and there is a dress code!

Jiko Wine Tasting

But of course, there’s much more to Jiko than a wide selection of wines. They have SPECTACULAR food. One of the standout dishes has always been their Oak-grilled Filet Mignon with Mac and Cheese. A perfectly cooked steak covered in a rich red wine reduction over creamy mac is the stuff dreams are made of.

Oak Grilled Filet with Mac and Cheese

And pro-tip: if the side dish is different, ask for the KIDS’ mac and cheese with your filet! That’s the original version that made this dish a hit to begin with! While their menu has changed a bit over the years, you can always order that awesome kids’ mac and cheese as a side dish if you want to give it a taste. Just ask your server!

Savanna during the day

For the ultimate Animal Kingdom Lodge culinary experience, check out the Wanyama Safari. This tour is open to all guests — you don’t have to be staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge to book it! Your evening begins with a pre-safari reception, and then you head out onto the Savanna for a special tour! After the safari, you’ll enjoy a multi-course dinner at Jiko.

Overall, Animal Kingdom Lodge is a great place to experience a variety of food options and dining experiences. We think it’s worth checking out even if you aren’t staying at the resort! It’s full of character and has lots of must-try items!

What is your favorite restaurant at Animal Kingdom Lodge? Let us know in the comments!

Everything You Need to Know About Mission: SPACE

You’re going on vacation to Walt Disney World! The only problem? You’re not sure which attractions are right for you and your kiddos and you have questions. Which attractions are too intense for little ones? What rides do I really need a FastPass+ reservation for? What’s the disability access like for certain attractions? We’re answering all those questions and more in our Everything You Need to Know attraction series with today’s focus on Mission: SPACE at EPCOT!

Mission: SPACE
©Disney

What is Mission: SPACE?

Mission: SPACE is a space simulator with two different experiences. The thrilling Orange Mission offers a journey to Mars complete with the sensation of space flight while the tame, family friendly Green Mission allows guests to orbit around the Earth.

For both missions, guests are assigned one of the four roles to perform during the mission: navigator, pilot, commander, or engineer.

Where is Mission: SPACE?

Mission: SPACE can be found at EPCOT’s Future World and sits between Test Track and the former Wonders of Life pavilion (slated to become the Play Pavilion in the future).

What is the History of Mission: SPACE?

Mission: SPACE opened in 2003 and was built where former EPCOT attraction Horizons once stood until it was demolished in 1999. In 2017, the attraction closed for a refurbishment and reopened the same year with two missions: the 0riginal Orange Mission and the new, less intense Green Mission.

What You Need to Know About the Queue

Upon entering the ride building, guests immediately choose either the Orange Mission or the Green Mission. The queue is designed to look like guests are walking through a space training center filled with prop displays, spacecraft models and replicas, a massive gravity lab, and a peek at a control room.

Children’s playground at the exit of Mission Space

Guests who are too small or perhaps a little wary of this ride experience can check out the Advanced Training Center that offers a play area for kids and interactive games and activities.

What You Need to Know About the Ride Vehicles

Each ride vehicle seats four guests in four individual padded chairs with armrests. Each seat has its own over-the-head padded shoulder restraints. Before the ride begins, the ride vehicle closes around guests and moves them closer to their screens. Motion sickness bags are available inside the vehicle.

During the experience, guests can perform their assigned roles through pushing buttons and operating individual joysticks. Note: Pushing the buttons and controlling the joystick doesn’t actually affect or influence the expereince. The on-ride video will continue to play regardless of a guest’s performance.

What You Need to Know About the Experience

Mission: SPACE is technically two rides: Orange Mission and Green Mission. Upon entering the show building, guests enter the future at the International Space Training Center (ISTC) and choose their mission.

Guests choosing to experience Orange Mission embark on a mission to Mars. Guests ride in a centrifuge-based space simulator that spins them around a central axis to simulate both g-forces and moments of weightlessness. On the screen, guests see their shuttle liftoff and slingshot around the moon. After a few seconds of hypersleep, they land on Mars and have to control their vehicle with things (as they naturally do in a Disney Park) go wrong.

Guests choosing to experience the Green Mission are aboard the same ride vehicles as the Orange Mission. However, they don’t spin. This means no g-forces or the sensation of weightless. The only movement is what you normally experience in a simulator attraction. During this mission, guests experience liftoff and then enjoy a beautiful orbit around the Earth. Of course, things go wrong and guests must manually navigate through a storm upon landing.

As mentioned in the section covering Mission: SPACE’s ride vehicles, guests embarking on both the Orange and Green Mission are assigned a role. During the ride, buttons light up for them to press and individual joysticks on the console are used to simulate pilot the vehicle. However, the ride continues without a hitch even if you or someone in your ride vehicle doesn’t perform these functions.

What You Need to Know About Accessibility

Boarding procedure consists of a small step up into the ride vehicle. Guests must transfer from a wheelchair/ECV to experience this attraction. Guests 40″ to 44″ experiencing the Green Mission can obtain booster seats from a cast member. Due to the nature of the experience, service animals are not permitted on this attraction.

What You Need to Know About Health and Safety Advisories

Orange Mission

Guests should not ride if they are uncomfortable with dark, close spaces or even slightly prone to motion sickness as this attraction is a spinning simulator which creates g-forces. Some guests experience nausea, headaches, dizziness, disorientation, and even motion sickness even if they have never experienced it before.

All guests should also be in good health and free from high blood pressure, hearing, back or neck problems, motion sickness, and other conditions that could be aggravated by this adventure.

Also, guests of certain body shapes and sizes may not be able to ride due to the attraction’s seat and restraints. Expectant mothers should not ride.

Green Mission

Guests should not ride if they are uncomfortable with dark, close spaces or simulators. Also, guests of certain body shapes and sizes may not be able to ride due to the attraction’s seat and restraints. Expectant mothers should not ride.

What are the Height Requirements?

Guests must be 40 inches tall to experience the less intense Green Mission; and guests must be 44 inches tall to experience the more intense Orange Mission.

Does Mission: SPACE Offer FastPass+

Yes, Mission: SPACE offers FastPass+ but it’s not the best use of a FastPass+ reservation since both versions of the ride rarely post long waits.

Does Weather Affect Mission: SPACE?

A June storm pops over World Drive as a rainy afternoon gets started.

Since Mission: SPACE is an indoor attraction; it isn’t affected by inclement weather.

Did I answer all of your questions about Mission: SPACE? Is this attraction at the top of your family’s vacation to-do list? Let us know in the comments.

You NEED to See Gatorland’s New Social Distancing Mascot! We’re…Speechless.

While many Florida theme parks are currently looking for the best way to open, Gatorland Orlando will be re-opening during Phase Two of Florida’s re-opening plan.

Disney World Monorail

The attraction submitted its health and safety proposal to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force for consideration. Now, as the theme park moves forward in getting its park ready for guests, Gatorland released some very…interesting…videos explaining their new guidelines (and you just have to see them for yourself). They are…a lot to take in.

In the first video, Gatorland CEO, Mark McHugh, shows how they’ve been taking care of the park since the temporary closure. He details what Gatorland will be doing from now on to keep guests and employees safe. The video also showcases park employees (in gator face masks, of course) putting up informational signs, washing their hands, and placing social distancing markers on the ground.

He makes sure to let guests know that they have a very detailed 32-page safety guidebook they will follow to re-open. Pretty normal, right?? But then he mentions that the “Gatorland Social Distancing Skunk Ape” will be helping them to comply with the new health and safety protocols. (Um, why does this sound slightly terrifying? What will the Skunk Ape do if you don’t comply???).

©Gatorland

Well, our questions were answered… and we can never unsee whatever the Social Distancing Skunk Ape is supposed to be. Apparently, he’s such a big deal to Gatorland that he has his own page on the site. Oh, but don’t worry — it gets BETTER (or weirder).

©Gatorland

The Skunk Ape has his own video to promote social distancing while also highlighting the importance of hand sanitizer and face masks. And, if anybody doesn’t comply — he will attack! We’re not kidding. In the video, he shoves people apart, throws hand sanitizer canisters at them, and more. Even we can’t make this stuff up… .

The Crazed Look in His Eyes… ©Gatorland

A woman VERY similar to a uh…certain tiger-loving big cat sanctuary owner…brushes it off by saying (er, yelling) “he’s insistent that you stay distant” or “it’s always wise to sanitize!”

©Gatorland

Skunk Ape is what we imagine if Disco Yeti were to take a vacation from Expedition Everest and “rebrand” himself. Honestly, we’ve never seen anything like this before. But it’s everything we didn’t know we needed.

©Gatorland

You can watch Skunk Ape in all his glorious action in the Gatorland video below. And, if you can’t get enough of the newest mascot, you can wear his face on a shirt for $19.99.

We haven’t stopped thinking about this video. But we have to know: what was your first impression of these videos! Were you shook? Inspired? Confused? Comforted? Let us know in the comments!

Have you been to Gatorland? Will you be going just to see Skunk Ape? Let us know in the comments below!
