#DisneyMagicMoments: Adventures at Home – Greece

Long ago, in the far away land of ancient Greece… If you recognize these words you are in for the virtual trip of a lifetime! During today’s Adventure at Home we are going to explore the land of powerful gods and extraordinary heroes, so get ready to say “OPA!” as we celebrate the magic of Greece with Adventures by Disney.

1. Did Someone Say Toga Party?

A true hero isn’t measured by the size of his strength, but by the accessories on his toga. You and your family can celebrate Greece with this historical attire that is easy to recreate at home. All you need is some bedsheets (preferably in a neutral color) and safety pins. If you want to go the distance, you can accessorize with fake gold chains (or real, no one is judging), jewelry, or amulets. A pair of sandals will complete the look.

2. Like Painting a Masterpiece, it’s a Work of Heart!

Time to call the Muses, legendary goddesses of the arts. Today’s family game is going to put your artistic abilities to the test as you draw items inspired by our Greece itinerary while your family guesses. Just print this game guide and get ready to play Adventures by Disney – Draw it! Greece Edition.

3. Isn’t it Sweet? (Our Favorite Flavor!)

Our Greece itinerary features LOTS of culinary highlights but there is a flakey slice of cheesy magic that stands out. In the beautiful island of Crete, Adventurers learn to prepare a traditional pastry made with cheese, honey and filo dough, the Cretan Cheese Pie. Download the recipe here.

Today in Disney History: Casey Jr. Circus Train Opens in Disneyland Park, 1955

65 years ago—just 14 days after Disneyland opened in 1955—Casey Jr. Circus Train rolled into Fantasyland, delighting children and adult guests ever since. Casey Jr., the brave little engine known for his role in the 1941 animated film “Dumbo,” features individually designed and vibrantly painted train cars. Each animal cage and ornate sleigh is special, as guests clamored to ride in their favorite vehicle.

Train riders in the early days had relatively little to gaze upon, as the colorful train did not traverse through much scenery. However, that changed in 1956, when the Storybook Land Canal Boats opened. The miniature scenes of fairy tale villages and vistas provided the perfect backdrop to passengers aboard Casey Jr. Circus Train as well.

Since then, this whimsical attraction has remained largely unchanged. A charming addition in 1983 welcomed a lively new voice of the circus ringmaster, which became part of the narration. And, as always, when the train heads back to the station, alert travelers can hear Casey Jr. himself, giving that most famous of pep-talks, “I think I can, I think I can.”

#DisneyMagicMoments: Ride Along for a ‘Rat’s-Eye’ View of Ratatouille: The Adventure at Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris

Have you ever wondered what the world around you would look like if you were suddenly really small? Like something the size of, say … a rat?

That’s the premise for Ratatouille: The Adventure, the popular attraction inside Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris. Based on Disney and Pixar’s “Ratatouille,” this immersive experience “shrinks” you down to the size of “little chef” Remy and sends you scurrying through the kitchen of Gusteau’s restaurant.

In this new “Ride & Learn” video, you can virtually experience this 4D attraction and discover all sorts of fun facts – like the actual size of the giant fish you whiz by, or the names adorning some of the oversized bottles in Gusteau’s kitchen.

So enjoy this delicious treat we’ve cooked up for you today, and keep checking back with the Disney Parks Blog for more #DisneyMagicMoments!
