In Case You Missed It: News and Rumors – Week of May 22, 2020

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! I can’t believe we are officially here. Although, honestly, I don’t think this weekend is going to feel much different than the past few weekends. It’s not like I have any plans to do anything, besides sitting out on my back porch, maybe grilling up some hot dogs and s’mores. (I won’t be bitter that I was supposed to be on a cruise to Alaska…..) Anyway….what are your big plans for this socially distanced holiday weekend?

This week, see what shake ups have happened with the executive team within the Walt Disney Company, find out what new show is coming to Disney+ sooner rather than later, and more!

In Case You Missed It – Disney and Universal Orlando News and Rumors

Well, that didn’t last long. Josh D’Amaro, who was only just recently named as President of Walt Disney World has a new role. But I can’t be too sad about him leaving for his new role as chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. I think it’s a great fit and I look forward to seeing what he does moving forward.

Speaking of new roles, taking the role of President of Walt Disney World is Jeff Vahle. You can now follow him on Instagram!

Also, leaving the company is Kevin Mayer, who was in charge of Disney+ and has now left for TikTok. Some very interesting changes this week, indeed!

According to reports, Walt Disney World is the clear front-runner location for the NBA season to return to so that they can finish up the season. What do you think about this plan? Good idea?

Now another one of Walt Disney’s family members is speaking out. Walt’s grandson, Brad Lund is upset about the massive bonuses for Disney execs while workers are furloughed.

Hard to believe it, but Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is 40 years old! Share your favorite memories about this much loved film!

YAASSS!!! Muppets Now will debut in June on Disney+! I’m excited about this one!

This was pretty good…during a Twitter screening of Frozen 2, shopDisney shared that they had a new Samantha plush. I laughed pretty hard at this one.

Rumored: Disney Developing Live-Action ‘Snow Queen’ Film Not Related to ‘Frozen’

Rumored: Disney Developing Live-Action ‘Snow Queen’ Film Not Related to ‘Frozen’. In 2013, Frozen took the world by snow storm and has become an instant Disney Classic sparking two canon short films (Frozen Fever and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure), a non-canon LEGO short film series, At Home With Olaf shorts series, a Broadway adaption of the film, appearance of the characters in ABC’s Once Upon a Time, and a sequel equally as impressive as the first film simply called: Frozen II.

It’s no secret that Disney likes to not only expand on current intellectual properties, but they are not afraid to reimagine stories that have explored previously. One such story is The Snow Queen, an original fairytale by none other than famed Danish Author, Hans Christen Andersen. It is well known that Frozen is very loosely based on this tale, but it seems Disney may want to further explore the original story as was the original intention for Frozen.

Rumor has it, Disney is looking to film a live-action Snow Queen film that would be released in theaters sometime in the near future and have nothing to do with the Frozen franchise. Currently, Kristin Burr is the only name tied to the project and is said to be producing the film, but no formal casting choices or production team members other than Burr have been announced at the time of writing.

“The Snow Queen is an original fairy tale by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. It was first published 21 December 1844 in New Fairy Tales. First Volume. Second Collection. 1845. The story centers on the struggle between good and evil as experienced by Gerda and her friend, Kai.”

Do you think it’s too soon for another Snow Queen movie from Disney? Or are you excited to see them venture down a new path closer to the original story by Hans Christian Andersen? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
