Confirmed: A Percy Jackson Series is Coming to Disney+

Confirmed: A Percy Jackson Series is Coming to Disney+. After the launch of Disney+, and the welcome reception for original content on the streaming platform, it didn’t take fans of the Percy Jackson novels to plead their case to Disney about creating a live-action series for the new streaming platform. Well “demigods,” you asked and Disney answered.

Author Rick Riordan has been in talks with Disney since December 2019 and it seems the two have come to an agreement: Disney+ will be the home of a new live-action adaption of the Percy Jackson & the Olympians book series!

Riordan shared the news via Twitter, sharing: “Hey Percy Jackson fans, for the past decade, you’ve worked hard to champion a faithful on-screen adaptation of Percy Jackson’s world,” Riordan wrote in a note to fans on Twitter. “Some of you have even suggested it would be a good series for Disney+. We couldn’t agree more!”

“We can’t say much more at this stage but we are very excited about the idea of a live-action series of the highest quality, following the storyline of the original Percy Jackson five-book series, starting with The Lightning Thief in season one. Rest assured that Becky & I will be involved in person in every aspect of the show. There will be much more news in the future, but for now we have a lot go work to do! Buckle up, demigods. It’s going to be a fantastic, exciting ride!”

At the time of writing there have been no formal casting decisions and the only names tied to the project are currently Becky and Rick Riordan. It is currently unknown when the series will begin filming or when it will premiere on Disney+, but we are excited none-the-less!

Disney+ To Premiere Inspirational Drama ‘Clouds’

Clouds

Disney+ announced today that the moving and inspirational feature film “Clouds” will premiere exclusively on the streaming service this fall. The film, which recently completed production in Montreal, is based on the memoir Fly a Little Higher by Laura Sobiech, Zach Sobiech’s mother. Directed and produced by Wayfarer Studios co-founder Justin Baldoni (“Five Feet Apart”), the project is the first narrative film acquisition from the Disney+ Global Content team and will be available exclusively in all Disney+ markets.

“Clouds” is the true story of Zach Sobiech, a musically gifted 17-year old living with a rare bone cancer (osteosarcoma). The film follows Zach’s journey over the course of his senior year as he navigates the complexities of love, friendship, family and leaving behind a musical legacy. The film stars Fin Argus (Brat’s “Total Eclipse”) as Zach Sobiech, Sabrina Carpenter (“The Hate U Give”) as his best friend and bandmate Sammy, Madison Iseman (“Annabelle Comes Home,” “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”) as Zach’s girlfriend Amy, Thomas Everett Scott (“13 Reasons Why,” “La La Land”) and Neve Campbell (“Skyscraper,” “House of Cards”) as his parents, Laura and Rob.

“I fell in love with Zach’s infectious joy and spirit seven years ago when I made a short documentary about his life. Just before he passed, I made a promise to him that I would do whatever I could to make sure the world heard his music,” said Baldoni. “In the age of COVID-19, with the future of the theatre business up in the air, it was extremely important to me to ensure Zach’s message of hope, faith and triumph in the face of adversity truly had the opportunity to touch as many hearts around the world as possible. That’s why I’m so excited to be partnering with Disney+ for my first film under our Wayfarer Studios banner, as it’s the perfect home and platform to bring Zach’s incredible story to the world.”

“Justin has created a poignant and uplifting tribute to Zach, whose story shows us the power of optimism, music, and human connection,” said Ricky Strauss, president, Content & Marketing, Disney+. “As our team searches the world for stories that entertain and inspire, ‘Clouds’ is a fantastic fit for Disney+ and our global audience.”

“Clouds” is a Mad Chance/La Scala Films Production, co-financed by Wayfarer Studios, and produced by Mad Chance’s Andrew Lazar, Justin Baldoni for Wayfarer Studios and Casey La Scala. Steve Sarowitz, Wendy S. Williams and Cate Adams are also executive producers, and Ben Simpson is a co-producer. Endeavor Content and Wayfarer Studios brokered the deal of the film.

Justin Baldoni is represented by WME.

Top 5 Picks for Celebrating #Halfway2Halloween at Home

by , Editorial Content Director, Disney Parks

Fun Ways to Celebrate Halfway to Halloween

As part of our #Halfway2Halloween takeover at Disney Parks, we’re digging up five favorite ways to have some spook-tacular fun at home! Whether it’s a delightfully ghoulish DIY project, a creepily creative candy apple or a not-so-scary digital wallpaper for your device, check out our list of Disney surprises:

1 – Make One of These Not-So-Scary DIY projects

Our first way to celebrate #Halfway2Halloween is with a bewitchingly wondrous series of DIY projects.

2 – Harken Back to Halloween Past

Celebrate #Halfway2Halloween with a fascinating look at the history of Halloween at Disney Parks.

3 – Learn Something New about The Haunted Mansion

One of our favorite attractions is The Haunted Mansion, so add to the #Halfway2Halloween fun with these facts:

        • The idea for a haunted house at Disneyland was included in an early concept design sketch by Harper Goff dating back to 1952, when Disneyland was still being conceptualized.
        • Within a week of the Haunted Mansion’s opening, Disneyland celebrated what was then its highest single-day attendance.
        • 20 tombstone tributes exist both inside and around the exterior of the attraction. The epitaphs on the tombstones were written to honor several Disney Legends and Walt Disney Imagineers who created and maintain the attraction.
        • The final exterior concept for the house is heavily influenced by the Victorian-era Shipley-Lydecker House in Baltimore, Maryland.
        • Thurl Ravenscroft is the voice of “Uncle Theodore” who leads the “Phantom Five” quintet of singing headstones. His voice can also be heard at Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room as the voice of both Fritz and Tangaroa.
        • The pipe organ seen in the ballroom sequence was featured as Captain Nemo’s pipe organ in the Disney film classic, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” For more details, check out George’s story here.
        • Leota Toombs, a former Walt Disney Imagineer and Disney Legend, served as the famous face of Madame Leota.
        • The Hatbox Ghost was featured in Haunted Mansion when the attraction first opened. Then, he mysteriously vanished, only to reappear in 2015 in time for the 60th anniversary of Disneyland.

Plus, we’d like to introduce you to 13 of the attraction’s residents at Disneyland Resort.

        4 – Create a Special Candy Apple

Also, you can choose from a variety of Halloween candy apple tutorials to celebrate #Halfway2Halloween. Each of these apples are coated with delicious candies, colored sugar and more.

5 – Add some Spooky fun to Your Devices
