Pixar Pier is officially open at Disney California Adventure Park! My little ones and I had so much fun this past opening week exploring the newly reimagined area—inspired by the stories and films we love so much.
One of my favorite things about Pixar Pier is how much there is for families with young children. My kiddos are between the ages of three months and 6 years old, and we found plenty of things we could all enjoy together—which isn’t always an easy feat! Read on to find all of my picks for a magical day at the Pier.
Attractions
There are three (soon to be five) attractions at Pixar Pier—The Incredicoaster, Toy Story Midway Mania, and the Pixar Pal-A-Round.
The Incredicoaster is an exciting Incredibles 2-themed rollercoaster. And it’s such a blast! If you or your kiddos are thrill-seekers, this is definitely a must-do. We loved how the attraction has a storyline—something you don’t find on many rollercoasters! I would highly recommend a nighttime ride if you get the chance—the cool lights make it extra magical. Little ones need to be 48 inches or over to ride, and be sure to get a FastPass/MaxPass as this is one popular ride.
For a ride fit for everyone in your family, check out Toy Story Midway Mania! This is a 3D, carnival-style attraction with no height requirement—so even babies can ride, which makes this a family favorite. It’s really fun to test your aim and get a little competitive for the best score! FastPass/MaxPass is also available.
The third attraction that is currently open is the Pixar Pal-A-Round. This big ferris wheel overlooks the Park, and is also another great option for all family members—babies included. A fun addition are the gondolas featuring different Pixar characters. We prefer the stationary ones, but if you’re in for a little bit of a thrill, you might want to try the swinging gondolas. But our favorite part is definitely the beautiful view from the top—it can’t be beat! Plus, it’s also a really great way to rest your feet since the trip around the wheel takes about 15 minutes.
We can’t wait to come back to ride these again, and the new attractions coming 2019—including Jessie’s Critter Carousel and the Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind.
Eats
Food is an important and exciting part of any day at the Park—and Pixar Pier is no exception! A treat is always a must for us, so I recommend grabbing a unique Caliente Churro (a little too spicy for the kids, but great for Mom!) or Cinnamon Super Galaxy Churro at the cart Señor Buzz Churros.
If your little one is a chocolate chip cookie fanatic just like baby Jack-Jack from Incredibles 2, then head to Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums for a warm chocolate chip cookie (aka a Jack-Jack Cookie Num Num), a gluten-free, blackberry jam-filled cookie called The IncrediCookie, or a Jack-Jack Shortbread Cookie. Obviously, we had to try all three and they did not disappoint. The best part is, you can choose from a variety of milk options (including dairy-free) to pair with your cookie treat…yum!
If you’re in need of a frozen treat on a warm summer day, Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats is the place to go. Our favorite is the It’s Snow Capped Lemon—featuring lemon soft serve “snow-capped” with white chocolate. This place is kiddo approved!
When meal time comes around, Pixar Pier has got you covered! Stop by Angry Dogs for hot dogs and chips, Poultry Palace for delicious chicken drumsticks (these were our favorite!), or Lamplight Lounge where you’ll find an array of unique eats, including a kids menu with things like the PB and J Roll—a peanut butter and jelly sandwich rolled up and sliced to look like a sushi roll!
Opening later this summer is Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff where guests will find treats and merchandise. I know my kids are especially going to love it.
Games
If you’re like us and enjoy taking breaks from attractions during the day, I suggest checking out the Games of Pixar Pier. Purchase a game card for a minimum of $4, then choose from four games, including La Luna Star Catcher, WALL-E Space Race, Heimlich’s Candy Corn Toss, and Bullseye Stallion Stampede. La Luna Star Catcher is great because everyone is always a winner—no matter what, guests will always walk away with a prize! They vary depending on what game you choose, but for as low as $4, it’s really a great deal.
After some games, have the little ones play by the Luxo ball water fountain right in front—mine had fun cooling off on the hot summer day!
Characters
Don’t forget to download the official Disneyland Resort app to find the locations of various Pixar Pals, available for photo opps and autographs around Pixar Pier!
Visiting with their favorite Pixar characters is always a highlight for my kids.
Entertainment
A Disney day wouldn’t be complete without some entertainment! We really enjoyed listening to The Pixarmonic Orchestra—a super fun, seven-piece band that performs in the Pixar Promenade a few times daily. Check the Disneyland app for showtimes.
For another fun activity, the new Pixar character face paint options are absolutely adorable. Kiosks can be found near Knick’s Knacks, and they offer free touchups throughout the day.
And last, but certainly not least, be sure to capture some cute photo opps by colorful Pixar walls—as a keepsake until next time.
