The NBA will be starting its season on July 30th at Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports!
Players and officials will be staying on property at different Disney Resorts in areas that are isolated from regular guests (but with swoon-worthy amenities). Training courts have already started to be set up inside the hotels, along with fencing down the middle of places like Disney’s Floridian Resort to separate the NBA from resort guests!
Although we’ve had a sneak peek of the big blue wall that has started to form at the Grand Floridian, we got a better look at just HOW LONG and BIG this fencing is going to be.
Although the fencing at first looked like it would be in a few spaces to separate sections of the resort, the blue wall stretches across the expanse of the Grand Floridian literally splitting the property into two sections.
Since the NBA will be playing its games through the middle of October, the fencing may stay up through the Fall as well. At the moment, guests are able to stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort with previous reservations in the areas the NBA WON’T be occupying. We haven’t heard word from Disney if things might change a bit at the hotels the NBA is staying at once the teams start arriving.
These walls are BIG, y’all. They completely wipe out the view of the Magic Kingdom from the main building. We were able to JUST spot the tippy-top of the highest spire of Cinderella Castle from Gasparilla Island Grill (normally, you have a nice clear view of the castle when leaving this spot!). We’ve got to admit, it’s a bit jarring to walk out the back of the main Grand Floridian lobby and be hit with a wall of blue stopping you in your tracks!
While we’ll be keeping an eye on the NBA’s plans and any official word from Disney about how the resorts will be affected, we will keep you updated on any new details!
Do you have plans to stay in the Disney Resorts any time soon? Let us know in the comments below!
