Universal Studios Hollywood Might Be Looking To Reopen in July

Disney World and Disneyland have been closed since March, but attractions over on the east coast have been slowly opening up to guests again.

Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle

Universal Orlando plans to open its theme parks this week and Disney World will follow next month. Earlier today, we learned that Disneyland Resort is now only accepting reservations beginning July 15th. But according to recent reports, Universal Studios Hollywood is already considering opening the theme parks in July.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, one of the unions representing Universal employees shared with its members that Universal Hollywood is “hopeful” that the whole theme park will reopen in July.

The message from the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees also stated that CityWalk could open “‘on a limited basis’ as soon as June 8th.”

VooDoo Doughnut CityWalk

Their county was recently cleared to reopen in-person dining and retail, but Universal has not released an official statement on their reopening timeline for CityWalk or the theme parks. We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more!

When Disneyland reopens, will it be similar to how Disney World is planning to reopen? You can read more about their plans here!

When would you be ready to visit a California theme park? Let us know in the comments!

Raglan Road Prepares to Reopen and Outdoor Seating is Expanded At Select Disney Springs Restaurants

If you want a master class in how to keep your audience engaged  during an unexpected closure, look to Raglan Road at Disney Springs. This beloved Irish restaurant and pub is set to reopen on June 10. During its closure they offered a fantastic gift card deal (that I wish I had taken advantage of) that not only benefited the consumer, but benefited the staff as well. They also hosted live performances of Irish musicians and singers, many of which were broadcasting from Ireland, on Raglan Road’s social media channels.

Now that an opening date is set, you can see the outdoor seating area is set up and ready to go. The tables are spread out of course, and thankfully it looks like there will be umbrellas at every table, or most of them, which will help with the Florida sunshine. The small stage remains so hopefully that means live music will return too.

Around the corner at Enzo’s Ristorante and Pizza Ponte, new outdoor seating is in place. There is also a menu board with a QR code to view the menu and a sign that indicates only cashless payments are accepted.

It certainly is an interesting time to visit Disney Springs and see new procedures being followed. Are you looking forward to dining at Disney Springs soon?

Quick Review: Dole Whip Nachos Are Not Worth The Hype

Somehow the collective Disney fandom has been sleeping on the Dole Whip Nachos at Disney Springs (as the kids say). This sugary dessert actually debuted in September 2019, and it flew under the radar. Now with Disney Springs being the only thing open at Walt Disney World, their moment to shine has arrived.

The Dole Whip Nachos sound fun and exciting, and they are a good idea in theory. Anyone who has had ice cream “nachos” knows its basically a waffle bowl that was broken and a sundae was made on top of its shattered pieces. You can find the Dole Whip Nachos at Marketplace Snacks, across from World of Disney.

For $8.99 you can nibble on waffle cone chips topped with Dole Whip Pineapple Soft Serve, fresh pineapple, strawberry sauce, whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, and mango boba pearls. I personally think mango boba pearls ruin everything. But, others find them tasty and mildly entertaining, I guess. And it is nice when Disney Springs has a specialty food item that is all its own.

Our field research team was not impressed by the Dole Whip Nachos. They warn Dole Whip enthusiasts that the toppings take away from the glory that is Dole Whip. Simply stated, “You don’t put a mustache on the Mona Lisa.”

Are you a Dole Whip enthusiast? Will you dig into the Dole Whip Nachos next time you’re at Disney Springs?

#DisneyMagicMoments: Cooking Up the Magic — PB and J Rolls Put a Fun Spin on a Lunchtime Classic

There is something comforting about slathering creamy peanut butter on fresh soft bread then layering on strawberry or grape jelly. This lunchtime staple is a happy reminder that three simple ingredients can make the perfect meal for kids … and one bite will bring back a flood of childhood memories for us adults!

Leave it up to the chefs at Lamplight Lounge at Disney California Adventure park to take this classic lunchtime sammie up a notch in presentation. All the ingredients are there – with a clever spin! This is the perfect sandwich to make with the kiddos – even the youngest can help! Check out the recipe below as well as the how-to video from the Disney Youth Education Series team.

PB and J Rolls from Lamplight Lounge at Disney California Adventure Park

PB and J Rolls from Lamplight Lounge at Disney California Adventure Park

PEANUT BUTTER ROLLS

  • 8 slices wheat bread
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter, divided

JELLY DRIZZLE

  • 3/4 cup strawberry or grape jelly

For peanut butter rolls:

  1. Cut crusts off bread. Flatten bread with rolling pin until bread can bind after being rolled.
  2. Spread 1 1/2 tablespoons of peanut butter evenly on each slice of flattened bread, leaving small boarder on all sides – the peanut butter will spread as you roll.
  3. Starting with long side of bread, gently roll up each bread slice into spiral. Cut each roll into 4 even pieces.
  4. Place 8 pieces of rollups onto each plate, seam-side down.

For jelly drizzle:

  1. Place plastic quart-size freezer bag into small cup, folding back first few inches of bag over top of cup. Spoon jelly into bag, gently shaking bag to move jelly to bottom of bag. (Note: If jelly is too thick to drizzle, add small amount of warm water to jelly in small bowl and mix to desired consistency before adding to bag).
  2. Once filled, lift bag from cup and squeeze out excess air from bag and seal bag with a few twists to top of bag. Cut bottom corner of bag with scissors.
  3. Holding right below the twisted top of bag with one hand and guiding with free hand, gently squeeze to drizzle jelly over each peanut butter roll with zigzag motion.

Cook’s Note: A squeezable bottle of jelly is an easy option. Simply squeeze, in zigzag motion, desired amount of jelly over each peanut butter roll.

Note: This recipe has been converted from a larger quantity in the restaurant kitchens. The flavor profile may vary from the restaurant’s version. As a reminder while preparing this recipe, please supervise children who are helping or nearby.
