Here’s What Qualifies — and Doesn’t Qualify — as a Mask in Disney World!

As the Walt Disney World theme parks prepare to welcome guests again, it’s only natural that there are questions GALORE!

Here’s What Qualifies — and Doesn’t Qualify — as a Mask in Disney World!

Early Morning at Cinderella Castle

There are a LOT of new guidelines and policies to keep up with. Don’t worry if you’re still super confused, because we’ve got ya covered…literally!

Wearing a face covering is going to be one of the BIGGEST adjustments guests will have to make when visiting the Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom when they reopen on July 11th and Epcot and Hollywood Studios when they reopen on July 15th.

Here’s What Qualifies — and Doesn’t Qualify — as a Mask in Disney World!

But before you go, you may be wondering: Who has to wear a face covering? When do you have to wear a face covering? What even IS a face covering?!

Who has to wear a face covering?

A recent update confirmed that Cast Members and ALL guests ages TWO and up will be required to wear a face covering while at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Here’s What Qualifies — and Doesn’t Qualify — as a Mask in Disney World!

American Threads Face Masks at Disney Springs

According to Disney, you need to bring your own face mask.

Where do you have to wear a face mask?

We already know you need to wear a face mask while visiting Disney Springs, and you’ll have to wear them all around the theme parks. Additionally, hotel guests will have to wear face masks while in common areas of the resort, according to a Disney rep.

Here’s What Qualifies — and Doesn’t Qualify — as a Mask in Disney World!

Disney will require guests to wear face masks unless eating or swimming while at a resort hotel

As previously reported, you will NOT have to wear your face covering when dining and swimming! Guests also will not be required to wear a mask while in their own rooms.

In the proposal Disney offered to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force, it was mentioned they may be offering “relaxation zones.”

Guests with Face Coverings in Disney Springs

These are spots “in and around and off the property” where folks can remove their face coverings for a while and breathe in that fresh Florida air. Universal Studios introduced similar locations when they reopened, called URest areas.

What counts as a face covering?

That’s two big questions out of the way! But you might still be wondering… what counts as a face covering at Disney World?

Here’s What Qualifies — and Doesn’t Qualify — as a Mask in Disney World!

Cast Member with required face mask

The CDC has great information regarding face coverings! But since we’re here for Disney World, it’s important to note that the Disney World website currently states the following in regard to face coverings. They must:

  1. Fully cover an individual’s nose and mouth and allow the guest to remain hands-free
  2. Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
  3. Be secured with ties or ear loops
  4. Be made of breathable material, either disposable or reusable

Here’s What Qualifies — and Doesn’t Qualify — as a Mask in Disney World!

So, what constitutes as a face mask?!  Scarves tied snugly around your face, gaiters, buffs, disposable or reusable masks (including bandanas), and handmade or homemade masks are all examples of what is allowed Disney World.

Here’s What Qualifies — and Doesn’t Qualify — as a Mask in Disney World!

Monsters Inc. Bandanas

When it comes to religious coverings, the most important thing to note is that your face and nose MUST be covered and your covering should fit snugly against the side of your face. If you are unsure whether or not your religious covering will be approved as a face mask, it’s best to bring an alternative with you JUST IN CASE! And it’s important to note that Disney can change its face covering policy at any time!

Here’s What Qualifies — and Doesn’t Qualify — as a Mask in Disney World!

Face Masks at American Threads

One quick note here to remember is that the rules regarding costumes and masks still apply! Sorry to those who thought they would be able to get away wearing their Darth Vader masks as face coverings! Costume helmets/masks, ski masks, or anything else that covers the entire face (excluding religious coverings) are also BIG no-nos at Walt Disney World.

Here’s What Qualifies — and Doesn’t Qualify — as a Mask in Disney World!

Disney Springs Planet Hollywood Server

A Cast Member we spoke with said face shields are also an acceptable face covering since they cover the nose and mouth. They haven’t seen many folks wearing face shields, but they’re allowed.

While it’s been reported that Disney Springs has a very limited amount of disposable masks for those who show up without one, it’s SUPER important to note that you shouldn’t rely on them! Definitely bring your own!

What will happen if you refuse to wear a face covering?

Face coverings will be required…but what will happen if you refuse to wear one? With increased security and social distancing squads on the lookout for face coverings, it’s HIGHLY likely that those without proper face coverings or those disobeying the guidelines will be quickly addressed! So be sure to cover up!

In compliance with Osceola County law, you WILL be required to wear face masks at Disney World once it reopens. Don’t let that get you down, though! Use your mask as just another Disney accessory! News! Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Asking July Guests to Confirm Reservations!

Over the weekend, there was STILL a way to book a non-DVC room on Disney property for the reopening of Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom on July 11th and the reopening of Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 15th. Guests could go through Mariott’s website and book a room at The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin resorts.

THEN, the Swan and Dolphin’s website was updated to state that both resorts will remain closed through July 29th.

That left guests with rooms at the Swan and Dolphin with one MAJOR question: What would happen to their reservations?! Now it seems as though the Swan and Dolphin WILL be open to guests with previously booked stays.

Swan and Dolphin Resort

The Swan and Dolphin resorts are asking guests to confirm their reservations by 5PM on Monday, June 15th, otherwise, the reservation will be canceled and refunded. If you have a reservation at the Swan and Dolphin for July, confirm by calling 800-227-1500 or by emailing reservations@swandolphin.com.

Email From Swan and Dolphin

According to the email, the Swan and Dolphin resorts will be operating with “limited services initially, which will impact amenities and restaurants typically available to guests.” Though these are third-party hotels, this is in line with what Walt Disney World resort hotels will look like after reopening on June 22.

Animal Kingdom Lodge

Note that the Swan and Dolphin did NOT confirm when they will be reopening to new guests, nor when the hotels will open to new reservations before July 30th. We’ll monitor this story and keep you updated as we learn more.

Are you staying at the Swan and Dolphin anytime soon? Let us know in the comments!

8 Hidden News Bombs in Disney World’s Hotel Info Drop!

When the parks re-open on July 11th and July 15th, Disney World will be making some changes to how dining, hotels, attractions, and more operate.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

And, Disney dropped some MAJOR news this past weekend about how the resorts will be operating when they open back up again soon.

While we don’t have definitive re-opening dates for many of the Disney hotels aside from Disney Vacation Club resorts and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground, we do know what procedures and regulations are going to be followed when they welcome guests again!

‘Ohana Won’t Reopen With the Hotels

When the Disney Parks and Resorts re-open, character experiences will be limited. On top of character meet-and-greets being halted, character dining will also no longer be occurring during this time. One of these places includes ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (parting with that Bread Pudding is such sweet sorrow). We’ll still have to wait a bit longer for our character breakfast or dinner meat feast (including those glorious noodles) over at ‘Ohana.

Mahalo, Lilo!

However, there is one character dining event that will be open when Disney Resorts welcome guests again. So, if you really want to meet some characters while you eat some Mickey Waffles, you can go to Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera at Disney’s Riviera Resort for a modified character dining experience.

Topolino’s Terrace Breakfast a la Art Characters

Details concerning this new experience haven’t been shared yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we learn more.

Read about all the ways Disney dining will be changing this summer!

No More Signature Dining or Dinner Shows

Although many of the Disney Resort restaurants will be greeting guests again during their re-opening, signature dining locations will remain closed for the time being! This includes California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and 1900 Park Fare, Narcoossee’s, Citricos, and Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa!

Queen Victoria Room at Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

But, don’t worry — you can still swing by spots like Contempo Café for a cupcake or a bite (PHEW!). ? Dinner shows will also be halted at the resorts.

Strawberry Shortcake

That means no Polynesian feast at Disney’s Spirit of Aloha, no unlimited buckets of fried chicken at Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue (cue our tears here), and no stomping along to Mickey’s Backyard BBQ!

These are all the restaurants where you will be able to dine in the Disney Resorts when they re-open!

The Best Pool in Disney World Will Be CLOSED!

Although Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club are gorgeous locations to stay in Disney World, the resorts are also home to an AWESOME sand-bottom pool — the largest resort pool on property. While Stormalong Bay is a major pull for many guests picking a Disney Resort, the pool will not be open during guests’ stay. Guests at these resorts will have access to the Beach Club’s leisure pool or the Luna Park or leisure pool at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn.

Stormalong Bay

However, other pools at the other Disney resorts will be open with reduced hours, while leisure pools will be open 24 hours a day. At this time, pools will be operating with limited capacity for guests who are staying at the resorts.

You might not be thinking about these things when you book a Disney World hotel!

You’ll Have to Wait for The Next Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction Series to Arrive Online ONLY

Although merchandise locations will be re-opening at the resorts, the shopping experience will be changing a bit. While we’ve loved shopping for each Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction Series or the next limited edition Mickey Ear Hat, new product launches and limited-edition merchandise won’t be available for purchase at the stores.

Ears Section of World of Disney

Since these items sell out pretty quickly and guests go a bit wild for them (Enchanted Tiki Minnie is just too cute!), the resorts are most likely suspending these collections in-store as a means of social distancing guests.

Limited Releases like the Minnie Mouse Main Attraction Collection Won’t Be Released in Disney Stores Initially

Since Disney Springs saw limited edition merchandise at the World of Disney sell out extremely fast with large crowds, it’s possible they decided to forego any in-store limited releases for the time being.

Take a look at all the Disney merchandise you’re going to want to take home with our latest merchandise round-up!

Looks Like You Won’t Be Able to Eat Mickey Waffles in Bed Anymore!

Since the resorts will be using limited operations across the board, Room Service will also unavailable for the time being.

Mickey Waffles!

Since the Disney Resorts will be using limited amounts of cleaning service during guests’ stays, Room Service would just be another way to have in-person contact that’s deemed unnecessary at the moment.

Package Delivery Is Taking a Leave of Absence

If you’re shopping around Disney World, the parks usually give you the option to send purchased items back to your hotel for you to pick up or to the front of the theme park. However, guest package deliveries from stores on property will not be happening as a safety measure.

Polynesian Lobby

According to a Cast Member we spoke with, Disney hasn’t confirmed whether this suspension would be extended to delivery for things like Amazon packages or medicine yet.

These are ways you can fix big Disney World disasters!

One of Your Favorite Nightly Shows Will Be Halted!

While Disney’s Contemporary Resort has some BOMB views of Magic Kingdom where you are able to watch the fireworks from the comfort of your hotel room, entertainment will be paused for the time being. Disney World will be temporarily suspending its fireworks, parades, and character meet-and-greets in the parks when they re-open.

View from California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

However, Disney has also announced that another piece of nightly entertainment will be closed as well. The Electrical Water Pageant that makes its way around the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake nightly will also be stopped during the re-opening.

©Disney

Although we aren’t entirely sure why Disney World is halting this since the “parade” happens away from guests and can be witnessed from the resorts, Disney might just be starting from scratch with all entertainment.

Take a look at the full list of activities that will be halted at the Disney Resorts here!

You’ll NEED a Reservation to Dine at Table-Service Restaurants!

Now, this is a HUGE change for Disney dining that may affect how you plan your vacation to Disney World going forward! Since the parks will be implementing a new reservation system, Advance Dining Reservations and the Disney Dining Plan have been canceled.

Whispering Canyon

However, once the system is up and running, there will be new ways to book reservations for the restaurants you love (we’re coming for you, Garden Grill). But, there’s a catch — when the table-service restaurants re-open in the parks and resorts, you’ll NEED to have a reservation to visit.

Garden Grill Restaurant

If you’re staying at a Disney Resort, you must have a confirmed hotel reservation or dining reservation to even enter the hotel. And, if you’re wanting to eat at one of the multiple table-service locations in the resorts, only guests who have previous reservations will be allowed to dine at the restaurant.

Sanaa

The parks will be following similar guidelines — guests who want to eat at a table-service restaurant will need to have valid park admission, a reservation for park entry, and a dining reservation. Since this system hasn’t been the process at table service locations so far in Disney Springs, we’ll keep an eye on this one for more information as it’s released.

Learn more about the dining reservation information at the Disney Parks and Resorts here!

While Disney is still moving towards releasing more details about what the parks will look like in July, they are doing everything they can to keep guests and Cast Members safe with these changes. We will continue to keep you updated with more news and details about Disney World’s re-opening!

Here’s everything you need to know about Disney World’s re-opening procedures!

There’s Still a Way to Book a Room on Disney World Property Right Now!

Disney World has just dropped SO much resort news, our heads are still spinning a bit.

Beach Club Resort

On top of new dining stipulations at the resorts and the virtual chat option on My Disney Experience for guests, stays at the hotels are about to see some huge changes when they re-open. But if you don’t currently have a hotel reservation, Disney World Resort currently isn’t accepting new ones.

At this time, Disney World is focusing on guests who already have reservations and has temporarily halted new bookings. These guests will be given priority access to the new theme park reservation system, and we filled you in on the fact that Disney’s Swan and Dolphin and Shades of Green Resorts would be included in that set group.

Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resort

Even though Disney will not be allowing guests to make new reservations at its hotels during this time, we did find a way you can still stay on property! Since the Swan and Dolphin Resorts are Sheraton hotels and partners with Disney, you can still book those resorts through Marriott’s website!

©Marriott

The Swan and Dolphin’s website currently list their closure as lasting through July 5th, but it IS possible to book a stay starting on July 1st. And both the Swan and Dolphin Resorts show booking windows throughout Disney World’s theme parks re-opening on July 11th and July 15th.

©Marriott

Availability may change depending on which room you choose to stay in at the resorts. Right now, there are multiple levels of rooms listed for booking.

©Marriott

If you book a room at either the Swan or Dolphin Resort, you can copy the confirmation number and link into the hotel reservation section on My Disney Experience.

©Marriott

For those that don’t have an existing hotel reservation, and want to book at Disney World for when the parks re-open, booking through the Marriott directly will still give you access to the perks of on-site guests, including first access to the new theme park reservation system. However, keep in mind that availability could always change and staying on property does NOT guarantee theme park admission. As Disney starts to roll out more information about resort reservations and the parks, we’ll continue to keep you updated!

Here’s all the information you need to know about Disney World’s re-opening procedures!

BREAKING NEWS: How your Disney World Hotel Experience Will Be VERY DIFFERENT This Summer

If you’re planning on going to Walt Disney World when it reopens on July 11th and are staying at a Disney-owned resort hotel, one of the BIGGEST questions on your mind is probably: What resort services WILL and WON’T be available?

Riviera Resort Pool

According to new updates on Walt Disney World’s official website first spotted by theme park reporter Scott Gustin (@ScottGustin) on Twitter, certain hotel services will be modified or unavailable during the initial reopening phase.

We just shared that Disney will be requiring guests to have a confirmed Disney hotel reservation or a confirmed dining reservation (if not staying overnight) to visit the resort hotels.

Disney’s Polynesian Resort

You might want to reconsider plans for casual resort hopping for now!

Click here to learn more about the new requirements to get into a Disney hotel when they reopen

Disney’s Magical Express

If you’re flying into the Orlando International Airport, there’s good news: complimentary airport transportation via Disney’s Magical Express service WILL still be available!

Disney’s Magical Express Bus

Just make sure you give Disney the most up-to-date information about your stay by contacting your room reservation booking agent or calling 407-939-1936.

Check-In Services

Disney is strongly encouraging guests use online check-in, either on Disney’s website or using the My Disney Experience app. However, standard check-in will be available and guests whose MagicBands are shipped to the resort will be able to pick them up at the front desk as well as unlock their room via My Disney Experience’s digital key feature.

Disney is encouraging online check-in

Guests will also be automatically checked out, so there is no need to visit the front desk when leaving the resort.

What Experiences Will NOT Be Available

Some classic parts of the Disney hotel experience will NOT be available upon reopening. Arcades, campfires, character experiences, dog parks, the Electrical Water Pageant, Marina rentals, Pin trading, Playgrounds, Spas, salons, and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique will not be operating initially.

©Disney

Fireworks voyages and tasting cruises, the Wonderland Tea Party at 1900 Park Fare, hula lessons, in-room childcare services, mermaid school, and other special classes and programs will also be unavailable.

Happily Ever After Fireworks From the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage

While Disney guests are typically able to book to in-room celebrations and use dry-cleaning services, bell services, and more, according to Disney some of those will be modified and unavailable. Changes to hotel amenities include:

  • Bell Services are still able to deliver luggage to rooms, but will not escort guests to their rooms
  • Club-level service will be temporarily unavailable
  • Deliveries will only be made to occupied rooms
  • In-room celebrations will not be available
  • Dry-cleaning and valet laundry services will be temporarily unavailable; self-service laundry will remain available
  • Shipping services will be temporarily unavailable
  • Resort airline check-in service may be temporarily unavailable

What hotel services are not available when Disney World reopens

What Pools and Fitness Centers Will Look Like

Other MAJOR changes include pool hour operations. Feature pools may operate with reduced hours and pools will be operating with limited capacity to enforce social distancing. However, leisure pools will be open 24 hours a day.

Guests at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts will notice Stormalong Bay will not be available during the initial reopening period. Instead, they will be able to use the leisure pool at Beach Club.

Stormalong Bay

Concerning the fitness centers, Disney has stated that these spaces will reopen according to state and county regulations and may have reduced hours and capacity, and instructor-led fitness classes will not be available. Sporty folks aren’t all out of luck! Fitness and sports courts will be open, with physical distancing in place.

Housekeeping Changes

One of the BIGGEST questions Disney hotel guests this summer will have is: How clean will my hotel and room be?

Room at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

In addition to increasing cleaning in high-traffic areas (think elevators, escalators, benches, tables, etc.), Disney is also giving rooms a “thorough cleaning” before your arrival. Specifically, they mention paying special attention to high-touch areas like TV remotes and door handles, and steam-cleaning and vacuuming floors between guests. Furthermore, housekeeping tools will be cleaned between rooms.

Housekeeping policies

Rooms will receive a light cleaning service every other day of your stay, which will include: Removal of trash and used towels, replenishment of towels and amenities throughout the room and bathroom, wiping and cleaning of the vanity and counter surfaces, and vacuuming if needed. However, you can decline every-other-day service.

Disney World housekeeping changes for reopening

There will be extra linens and towels wrapped in single-use packaging, individually-wrapped glassware, double-cased pillows, and additional items that have been cleaned and wrapped in single-use packaging in your room before your arrival.

Disney Vacation Club Members will receive service on the fourth and eighth days of their stay, unless declined.

Disney’s Riviera Resort

There are TONS of changes regarding Disney World hotels, and there are bound to be plenty more in the coming weeks! Be sure to keep checking Disney Food Blog, where we’ll give you ALL the latest info you need to know before the Disney World theme parks reopen.
