Review: Move Over Burgers — We’re Trying D-Luxe Burger’s Buffalo Fried Chicken in Disney World!

Disney Springs kicked off its phased reopening last week. While we originally saw third-party stores and restaurants open back up to guests, a few Disney-owned locations opened their doors again today.

D-Luxe Burger

We’ve already given you a look at what’s hoppin’ at the World of Disney and now we’re taking you with us to grab a burger, fries, and a shake at the reopened D-Luxe Burger!

D-Luxe Burger is a great place if you’re looking for a quick meal or snack. But, it’s also AWESOME because the restaurant rolls out unique burgers (Pizza Burger, we’re looking at you!) along with classic meals.

Waiting In Line

Before you walk into the restaurant, there are distancing markers on the ground to separate parties from each another.

D-Luxe Burger Markers

D-Luxe is currently accepting Mobile Order ONLY — unless you have an allergy — in which case you can order inside. After you tap the “I’m here” button in the My Disney Experience app, you wait outside behind physical distance markers. Once your order is ready, a Cast Member will direct you into the restaurant.

D-Luxe Mobile Order

While we were there, we encountered a small exception to the outdoor queue. Cast Members let us wait under the patio cover as it started pouring rain — but we still had to remain at least six feet apart from other guests.

D-Luxe Cast Member

When our order was ready, we headed in!

Picking Up Your Order

They gave us a station number were our food was waiting for us. Each station had napkins, utensils, and packaged condiments.

Food Pick-Up Station

For signature sauces, you can order them in the app or request them from a Cast Member but ONLY garlic ranch and curry ketchup were available during our visit. A Cast Member kindly brought out the extra sauce in a no-touch basket.

No=Touch Sauces

We noticed that if you order a bottled drink, it will be served alongside your food at the pickup station. But if you ordered a fountain beverage, Cast Members will assist you at the machines.

Drink Station

If you order booze or a shake, your bag will have a sticker that says that your order is unfinished.

D-Luxe Order

You’ll head to a separate counter to pick up your specialty beverage.

Seating

Similar to the rest of Disney Springs, Guests and Cast Members are both required to wear masks, but guests may remove their masks to eat or drink.

Limited Spaced Tables

The tables were separated at least six feet apart from one another, and there were some spots that were sectioned off for the time being.

Unavailable Table

The outdoor seating was increased to allow more guests to grab tables at a safe distance.

Outdoor Seating

Overall, the pickup procedure was streamlined and we could tell they aimed to reduce contact that could commonly occur at a traditional mobile-order pickup.

You can read more about the new logistics of Disney Springs here!

Eats

While we were there, we ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, the Plant-based Pacific Island Burger, some of those delish Fresh-cut Fries, and the Strawberry Gelato Shake.

D-Luxe Spread

The Buffalo Chicken Sandwich was A+!!! It was a Fried Chicken Breast topped with Buffalo-Ranch Sauce, Blue Cheese Crumbles, Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato for $12.49.

Open Buffalo Chicken Sandwich

The chicken in this sandwich was fried to perfection and it was a really good-sized piece too! We loved the way that the flavors came together to give us that classic buffalo chicken profile. Our only complaint was we could’ve used a tad more buffalo sauce. Also, if you’re not a blue cheese fan, order it without! You can definitely taste the blue cheese!

Buffalo Chicken Sandwich

Next up is the Plant-based Pacific Island Burger. It was made from a Plant-based Patty with Cabbage and Mushroom Ragout, Mango Salsa, Lettuce, and Dill Pickles on Plant-based Parker House Roll with the same price of $12.49.

Plant-based Burger

We’re big meat-eaters so we thought this sammie was just fine. We probably wouldn’t get it again, but it might be a real hit with someone on a plant-based diet! After the beautiful harmony of the buffalo sauce and ranch, these flavors didn’t quite strike the same chord. Mushroom, mango, and pickles? We’re fans of each, but maybe not so much when they are stacked together.

Split Plant-based Burger

But we could rely on our old friend! The $4.99 Fresh-cut Fries were an absolute delight. Also, we are big fans of the signature sauces at D-Luxe. We love the curry ketchup and we would probably take a bath in the garlic ranch if we could.

Fresh-cut Fries

Finally, we had that super tempting Strawberry Gelato Shake, and yes, it was as good as it sounds. Think: Vanilla Gelato blended with Milk and Strawberry Sauce, topped with Whipped Cream, Strawberry drizzle, and Maraschino Cherry. Ugh, now we’re thinking about it again. Maybe we’ll go get another… .

Strawberry Gelato Shake

The consistency of this shake was super smooth and sippable. Plus, it felt like it was made with really high-quality ingredients and you can definitely taste the difference. Next time you’re at D-Luxe, give it a try for $7.50.

Nosh or Not?

Snag a bite at D-Luxe Burger if:

  • You want a classic AND quality meal of burgers and fries.
  • You’re tired of the plain old milkshakes and are looking for something a cut above.
  • You think you’ll love garlic ranch as much as we do.

Dine elsewhere if:

  • You’re looking for something on the lighter side.
  • You want to have a nice, slow, sit-down meal.
  • You want to swing for something more unique than a burger and fries.

Overall

We love a trip to D-Luxe Burger. The menu items are consistently good and we can rely on this spot for a hearty lunch on a Disney Springs day. Even better, D-Luxe had an IMPRESSIVE grasp on health measures so if that’s a concern for you, this spot might tick all your boxes. Still, if you’re looking for something a little more creative than burgers (and trust us, there are some creative options in Disney Springs), you may want to head elsewhere. Overall though, we’re still impressed with how D-Luxe is doing things on and off the menu and you can bet we’ll be back for more.

Dole Whip Nachos a Refreshing Treat at Disney Springs

dole whip nachos disney springs

I am a lover of nachos and these Dole Whip Nachos were not disappointing.  And it was so nice to finally taste Disney’s Dole Whip again!

Dole Whip Nachos are waffle cone “chips” topped with pineapple Dole Whip, mango boba pearls, pineapple, strawberry syrup, and whipped cream.  The mango boba pearls were such a good touch and I personally enjoyed using the “chips” to scoop up the toppings. Such a fun twist!

On a hot and humid Florida day, like today, these were such a welcome and refreshing treat… maybe even big enough to share.  The Dole Whip Nachos are sold at Marketplace Snacks which is across from Disney’s Marketplace Co-op at Disney Springs.  Marketplace Snacks is your source for all pineapple Dole Whip cravings.

The treat costs $8.99 and cannot be redeemed for a snack credit.  Also, be sure to follow social distancing markers that are there for your safety and the safety of the cast members.  Will you be heading to Disney Springs soon to satisfy some of your Disney cravings?

Mickey Pretzels and Popcorn Never Tasted SO GOOD — Snacks are BACK at Disney World!

We’ve been filling you in on all the latest happenings now that several stores and restaurants have started to reopen at Disney Springs since last week!

World of Disney

And while you probably thought our coverage of World of Disney’s grand reopening was a pretty big deal today — we’re following an even BIGGER story (we think so at least!).

Now that several Disney-owned locations have started to reopen, guess what we’ve found throughout Disney Springs?!?

Snack and Cocktail Carts

That’s right, fam! Mickey Pretzels, Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bars, Churros, and Popcorn have triumphantly RETURNED to Disney World!

Popcorn

We’ll never look at them these common Disney World snacks the same way AGAIN! To think about how many times we took them for granted only to realize when the parks temporarily closed down we’d miss them MOST OF ALL!

We picked up a bucket of popcorn (still in that cute Mary Blair inspired packaging!)

Popcorn!

A Cast Member informed us that they’re still refilling popcorn buckets, even though they’re not currently selling them!

Next up, we got our ol’ pal, a Mickey Pretzel!

Mickey Pretzel!

Churros are available as well.

Snacks

All our favorite Ice Cream Novelties, including Mickey Premium Bars and Ice Cream Sandwiches, have returned as well!

Ice Cream

A small number of alcoholic options like beer are available for purchase at these stands again too. You can find the snacks at various carts throughout Disney Springs starting today!

Disney Recipe: Clear the Freezer — We’re Making The Kitchen Sink Sundae From Beaches & Cream Soda Shop

Have you ever built your own sundae and there were just too many choices??

The Kitchen Sink Sundaes at Disney’s Beach Club Resort

The ice cream was already starting to melt as you piled on even more sprinkles and cookie crumbs? Well we have some great news for you — you can have ALL the toppings with this sundae recipe inspired by the Kitchen Sink from Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts.

If you’ve ever been to Beaches and Cream Soda Shop, you may have caught a glimpse of this concoction. We’d like to say this sundae has “everything but the kitchen sink,” but, well — it has one of those too!

Close up on the Original Kitchen Sink

But get your shopping list ready and clear out the freezer because Disney’s recipe doesn’t skimp on the ingredients! You are, of course, free to substitute as you please and make your own creation, but this is Disney’s version with a patriotic twist!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm fudge topping
  • 1/2 cup warm butterscotch topping
  • 1/2 cup warm peanut butter topping
  • 1 medium banana, sliced in 1/2-inch slices
  • 1 cinnamon spice cupcake (2 ½ x 1 1/4-inch), quartered
  • 1 angel food cupcake (3 x 1 1/2-inch), quartered
  • 2 generous scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 2 generous scoops chocolate ice cream
  • 2 generous scoops strawberry ice cream
  • 1 generous scoop mint chocolate chip ice cream
  • 1 generous scoop coffee ice cream
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate syrup
  • 1/4 cup marshmallow cream
  • 1/4 cup strawberry topping
  • 1/4 cup pineapple topping
  • 14-ounce can dairy whipped topping
  • 1 large brownie (6-inch x 6-inch), quartered
  • 1 regular-sized candy bar, quartered
  • 4 chocolate cookies with cream filling
  • 1 tablespoon sliced toasted almonds
  • 1 tablespoon dark and white chocolate shavings
  • 1 tablespoon crushed chocolate cookies with cream filling
  • 1 tablespoon chopped jellied orange slices, about 2 large slices
  • 1 tablespoon milk chocolate chip morsels
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter chip morsels
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate sprinkles
  • 1 tablespoon rainbow sprinkles
  • 1/2 cup drained maraschino cherries

To Serve

  1. Pour hot fudge, butterscotch, and peanut butter toppings into bottom of large bowl.
  2. Layer banana slices and cupcake pieces over toppings. Top with all ice creams.
  3. As quickly as possible, spoon chocolate syrup, marshmallow cream, strawberry, and pineapple toppings over ice cream.
  4. Cover completely with dairy whipped topping. Tuck brownie pieces, candy bar pieces, and cookies in whipped topping.
  5. Sprinkle with toasted almonds, dark and white chocolate shavings, crushed cookies, jellied orange slices, milk chocolate chip morsels, peanut butter morsels, chocolate sprinkles, and rainbow sprinkles. Top with cherries.

And DIVE IN because this thing will melt quickly on you. You can watch Disney’s video on how to assemble your own Kitchen Sink sundae below!

You can make it your own, serve it in individual bowls — whatever you please! Let us know if you tried it and how YOU would make the perfect Kitchen Sink sundae!

Can You Conquer These 5 Disney World CHALLENGES?

We all have a little bit of a competitive streak (Disney board games are the bomb.)!

Cinderella Castle and Main Street, U.S.A. in Disney World

That’s why conquering Disney World challenges is so satisfying. These are some of the BIGGEST challenges out there that we dare you to complete during your next Disney vacation!

If you can complete them all, you can officially be deemed a seasoned Disney World pro! ?

Mickey Bar

Let’s take a look at what you’re in for!

All 4 Parks in One Day

Visiting all four theme parks in a day? Seems like a piece of cake, right?? Well… we’re making this a CHALLENGE for a reason!

Once you go to a park, you have to do four things: ride an attraction, watch a show or film, take a photo with a character, and get something to eat or drink before moving on to the next park.

Does Everyone Want To Ride Splash Mountain??

You could even make it MORE of a challenge by having to use a different form of transportation every time you go to a new park (and you can’t reuse the ones from before)! HINT: Start in Magic Kingdom and take the monorail to Epcot, before moving on from there. ?

Every “Mountain” in Disney World

Ain’t no mountain high enough, friends! So, that means it’s time to conquer ALL the attractions with mountains in Disney World. This challenge is especially fun since you’ll even get to visit both waterparks for a day of splashing around and soaking in some good ol’ Vitamin D!

While you’re in Magic Kingdom, you’re going to want to hop onto Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

Big Thunder Mountain

After you’ve made your way to Expedition Everest in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you’ll want to hop on over to the waterparks.

First on the agenda, you’ll want to take a wicked ride on Mount Gushmore at Blizzard Beach and then visit Mount Mayday at Typhoon Lagoon.

Typhoon Lagoon

Seven mountain rides in one day is daunting but totally doable (if you’re up for the challenge!).

The BIGGEST Snacks on Property

You guys know that some of the portions are HUGE in Disney World (best bang for your buck, though!).
And, while we’re big fans of snack crawls, we think the biggest food challenge is trying to finish all of these MASSIVE sized snacks at the parks and resorts!

Samantha Sterling Punch Bowl

We’re talkin’ about The Edison Punch Bowl, Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream, Buttermilk Pancake Tower at STK Orlando, Gibson S’mores Baked Alaska at The Boathouse, and ALL the specialty Dole Whips on property (ok, these aren’t massive sized but there are massive amounts OF them!). Yeah, we’re totally drooling just thinking about them… .

Visit EVERY Country in the World Showcase

The World Showcase in Epcot is one of our FAVORITE places to stroll around when we’re in the parks. Each country has something special to offer, even if it’s just admiring the buildings (that architecture is so detailed!!).

The next time you’re in Epcot, spend some time at each of the 11 World Showcase Pavilions to say you’ve conquered them all.

Mexico Pavilion

But, like all good challenges, there’s a rule! You have to either visit an attraction or show, take a photo with a character, or grab a snack or a drink once you visit a pavilion. You never know — you might find some hidden spot or details along the way (have you been lucky enough to spot the Viking sword in Norway??).

Eating ALL the Mickey Treats

There are SO many different Mickey treats on property (it IS Disney World after all. ?)! And, if you’re up to one of the ULTIMATE challenges, you can bring your friends and family members along with you to try them. Oh, did we mention there’s 19 of them?! PHEW. Keep in mind Disney is ALWAYS coming up with new Mickey-fied treats, so the list could keep growing!

Mickey Candy Apple

On top of the classics — Mickey Premium Bars, Mickey Candy Apples, Mickey Rice Krispies, and Mickey Waffles — you can also get unique treats like the Mickey House-made Pecan Praline and Mickey Chili Pepper Chocolates.

Pecan Praline

Since there are so many, you could spread the Mickey snacks over the course of your trip (instead of having to get them all at once). Plus, there are enough goodies to go around so you can share them and save some for later.

Think you can tackle any of those challenges? Believe it or not, we’ve done them ALL, so we believe in you! The best part about these challenges is that you can not only challenge yourself, but make a little competition with your friends! Drinks at La Cava del Tequila on whoever loses?? ? For even MORE ideas, check out our DFB Video on ride challenges below!

And, if you love this video, there’s plenty more for you to enjoy over on our DFB YouTube Channel!
