REVIEW – Terralina Crafted Italian Restaurant is Great for Sweets but Misses the Mark on Savory

There’s so many places to dine at Disney Springs it can be easy to overlook a few spots. Admittedly we had kind of forgotten about Terralina Crafted Italian Restaurant, so Chrissy on our team decided to give it a try. There were some highlights of the meal, but also some misses. Here’s what we did, and didn’t like, at Terralina.

This rustic Italian restaurant is a concept of Levy Restaurant group which runs multiple restaurants on Disney property, and around the country. Terralina Crafted Italian Restaurant used to be known as Portobello Country Italian Trattoria. In 2017, when Disney Springs began to blossom, Portobello became Terralina, with an updated look and new menu. The interior is very rustic and intimate, with a fireplace, making it a cozy spot for those rare chilly nights in Orlando. There is a nice selection of outdoor seating, and an intriguing outdoor bar. This outdoor bar is accented by a colorful light fixture and offers views of bustling Disney Springs as fellow guests stroll by.

To kick off the dining experience Chrissy order the Mediterranean Martini and the Limoncello Mojito. Both cocktails are spot on for fitting the Italian menu. The Mediterranean Martini (picture below on the right) is made with Malfy Limone Gin, Elderflower, Lemon and Simple Syrup. It was perfectly refreshing and a little sweet. The Limoncello Mojito is a simple combination of Árvero Limoncello, muddled mint, and simple syrup. This cocktail is very light and a good choice if you want a drink that won’t slow you down for the afternoon or evening. Both are $15.00 which is on par with most mixed drinks at Disney.

Antipasti Tower at Terralina – Back

The menu at Terralina retained a few “favorites” from the days of Portobello. One of the standout items is the Antipasti Tower. This two-tiered tower has Prosciutto, Spicy Capicola, Grana Padano, Bocconcini, Tomatoes, Pickled Vegetables, Grilled Zucchini, Parmesan Crisp, Olives, House-made Pecorino-Truffle Potato Chips. At $37.00 it is a bit pricey, but it sure does make an impression. It is meant to serve two people and it really is ideal for nibbling on while sipping on some Italian wine or a craft cocktail or two. The serving is substantial.

Some items on the tower stood out for their quality. Other items fell short. The giant Parmesan crisp that crowned the tower was stupendous. The pickled carrots and tomatoes added a lovely brightness. The beets were earthy and the mozzarella was delicious. The rest of the cheese selection did not impress Chrissy all that much, but the quantity was there at least. The grilled zucchini wasn’t really seasoned or well grilled. The House-made Pecorino-Truffle Potato Chips were not as flavorful as one would hope.

Where Terralina shined for Chrissy’s dining experience was in the desserts. It was impossible to resist the Espresso Sundae, with Fresh Brewed Espresso, Vanilla Ice Cream, Pizzelle Cookies, Chocolate Sauce, and Toffee Crunch. Espresso and ice cream is a popular combination for dessert after a heavy meal with lots of Italian wine; it’s a definite pick-me-up. At $9.00 it is an impressive, and scrumptious, dessert.

The Double Chocolate Cake is different than a standard chocolate cake. It is garnished with Caramel Sauce, Toffee Crunch, and Fresh Berries. At $10.00 it satisfied and was a good choice. Between the two desserts Chrissy ordered, the Espresso Sundae takes the lead.

Money saving-tip: Disney Vacation Club Members receive 20% off during the month of January, and Levy Preferred members earn Triple Points during the month of January when dining for lunch.

Overall, Terralina Crafted Italian is a decent choice, but there are better options at Disney Springs. We have ratings and ranking for every Walt Disney World restaurant. Our readers give Terralina a 70% thumbs up rating, and it is ranked pretty low at number 102 of 106 table service restaurants at Disney. Better options for dinner at Disney Springs include Wine Bar George, The BOATHOUSE, and Homecomin’.

Here’s What We’ve Been Told About the Opening Date of Everglazed at Disney Springs

Many Disney fans have been looking forward to the arrival of Everglazed at Disney Springs. This donut and cold brew coffee shop would bring a much-needed breakfast option to West Side. Things looked bright for this Florida-based business to open when in November they announced they were hiring, and did so again on their Facebook page at the end of December. But, since that time there’s been no sign of opening soon.

Everglazed Coming to Disney Springs

During a recent visit to Disney Springs we popped into Guest Services to check on a few things, one of which was the status of Everglazed. We’ve been told it will not open until March. This news comes just as Gideon’s Bakehouse announced it would close immediately, but temporarily. No word yet on the reason for the delay of Everglazed, or the news about Gideon’s.

The Top 3 Burgers at Walt Disney World in 2020

Researching the Walt Disney World theme parks every day makes our team hungry. One of the staples of theme park food is the hamburger. We’ve had quite a few this year and thought it would be fun to recap some of our favorites.

Note, these are all quick service burgers. Generally the burgers served at any table service restaurant will be better quality, but there are still some gems to be found at counter service locations.

  • Angus Bacon Cheeseburger at The Sand Bar
  • Backlot Burger at Backlot Express
  • Plant-Based Burger at Beaches and Cream
  • Honorable Mention: Turkey Holiday Burger at D-Luxe Burger

The Top 3 Burgers at Walt Disney World in 2020

It’s hard to wholeheartedly recommend The Sand Bar at Disney’s Contemporary Resort considering there are more interesting options on the monorail loop, like Caption Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian. However, with the Contemporary being right next door to Magic Kingdom, it is a convenient place to have a nice break.

The Angus Bacon Cheeseburger, is served with a generous amount of French fries. This burger is better quality than the standard cheeseburgers served inside Magic Kingdom. Priced at $12.99, which is pretty standard for a Disney quick service cheeseburger, this Angus Bacon Cheeseburger is a better value than the standard burgers inside the parks because of the quality.

Backlot Burger at Backlot Express

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios you can take a step back in time at Backlot Express, which has not changed too much since the park’s opening year. The Backlot Burger is a specialty burger that offers so much more than the standard Disney quick service burger. This something extra is indicated in the price of $13.99, but the serving is pretty large and the 1/3 lb. Angus beef burger is loaded with barbecued pulled pork, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and pickle. The brioche bun holds this big pile of tasty food together, and you can have apple slices or fries as the side.

Plant-Based Burger at Beaches and Cream

This next burger is delicious, even if you’re not that into plant-based options. The Plant-Based Burger at Beaches and Cream, at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, is one of the most flavorful burgers we tried this year. The plant-based mayo and the balsamic-onion jam elevate this plant-based burger. The sweetness of the onion jam is addicting. The plant-based mayo is a little tangy and adds a little bit of creaminess. The multigrain bun is flavorful and fluffy, and solidifies this burger as one of the best plant-based burgers at Walt Disney World.

The Top 3 Burgers at Walt Disney World in 2020
Holiday Turkey Burger and Eggnog Shake at D-Luxe Burger

This last burger is only available during the holiday season, but it is included as an Honorable Mention in this list because it showcases the great seasonal items that are available at D-Luxe Burger. If you enjoy checking out seasonal or new flavors at Disney Springs, D-Luxe Burger should be on your list. The Holiday Turkey Burger is a Turkey Burger patty topped with Bacon-Cranberry Jam, Butternut Squash Risotto Cake, Lettuce, and Tomato. Both the Bacon-Cranberry Jam and the Butternut Squash Risotto Cake elevate this burger to gourmet status, the flavor and quality is high. Our team was tempted to harass the cooks for the recipe of the Butternut Squash Risotto Cake. Here’s hoping this holly jolly burger is back on the menu next holiday season.

Did you visit Walt Disney World this year? What’s the best burger you had?

REVIEW – Don’t Forget About Cake Slices at Gideon’s Bakehouse at Disney Springs

Everyone is raving about the cookies from Gideon’s Bakehouse. But what about their incredible cake slices? Our team had the sweet job of selecting three different slices of cakes to test out. We had a tough time deciding which we like better, the cake or the cookies. Read on and maybe you can decide for yourself.

REVIEW – Don’t Forget About Cake Slices at Gideon’s Bakehouse at Disney Springs
Cakes on Display at Gideon’s Bakehouse

This local bakery’s original location at East End Market opened in 2016, and usually sells out of its specialty cookies and cake slices on weekends and special occasions. Now at Disney Springs, Gideon’s Bakehouse has a larger interior and a more elaborately themed space. Gideon’s Bakehouse likes to say they were established in 1898. The story goes they purchased what they thought was an old family cookbook, but instead uncovered a diary of a boy named Gideon who dreamed of having his own bakery.

Gideon’s original location and the branding on its website and packaging is inspired by the Victorian era, with some macabre undertones. This new Disney Springs space takes that theme to the next level. This is Disney property after all. Fans of The Haunted Mansion as well as the world of Harry Potter will enjoy the atmosphere.

Now, let’s get to the cakes. Every day Gideon’s presents a new selection of cake slices. Some of staple flavors, and others are fun experiments for the staff. Currently, the Disney Springs location does not offer entire cakes for pre-order, which is only available at the original East End Market location. Here’s the three flavors cake slices our team picked up and devoured at home:

  • True Red Velvet
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter
  • Special Double Frosted Caramel Mocha Chocolate Cake

We’ll start with the True Red Velvet as it is one of the few standard flavors. This cake is a beacon of hope for Red Velvet cake lovers. Nowadays Red Velvet tends to be chocolate cake with red food dye. But that’s not what Red Velvet is meant to be. This True Red Velvet is dense buttermilk cake with rich cream cheese frosting. The candied walnuts add a delightful crunch. This is truly a special cake and one that makes Gideon’s Bakehouse standout even more than it already does.

The Chocolate Peanut Butter is a comfort food classic. Dense chocolate cake is enrobed in thick, sugary peanut butter frosting. It’s a simple cake, but it is executed near perfection. The True Red Velvet is our favorite between these two, but anyone who loves the pairing of chocolate and peanut butter will find this cake irresistible.

Finally, we picked up a special slice that is described as “we were just having some fun with this one.” The Double Frosted Caramel Mocha Chocolate Cake is a delightful surprise. The chocolate and coffee flavor dance together without overpowering each other. The caramel adds a lovely sweetness and is a nice touch without taking over. If Gideon’s other special, just-for-fun slices are as good as this one we’re ready and willing to try them all.

REVIEW – Brunch at Raglan Road is the Pot of Gold at the End of the Rainbow

For your consideration, we present Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant’s brunch as one of the best values at Walt Disney World. When you consider that there are few character breakfast options available right now, and charge about $42 per person, and compare that to the live music that is offered at Raglan Road, with regular menu pricing, there is a great value here. Raglan Road is one of the most iconic places at Disney Springs, standing proud in The Landing section.

The brunch menu at Raglan Road is one the most indulgent of any menu at Walt Disney World. The dining experience starts with Stout Brown Bread served with Apple Butter; it’s hard to resist filling up on it. Our team ordered a nice assortment of sweet and savory items.

  • Pork Hash Tagged – Braised Pork Belly, Scallions and Potato Hash, Topped with Two Fried Eggs, $16.00
  • Rack of Heaven – Slow Roasted Guinness Glazed Full Rack of Baby Back Ribs, $28.00
  • Worth the Wait Beef Sandwich – 12 Hour Braised Beef, Sauteed Mushrooms, Crispy Onions, Garlic Aioli, Smoked Cheddar, On Ciabatta, $20.00
  • Pancakes Diaspora – Homemade Pancakes with Creme Fraiche, Maple Syrup and Mixed Berry Compote, $13.00
  • Kids’ Gold’N Chicken Meal – 2 Deep Fried Chicken Goujons (strips); Choice of Side, $9.00

The Pork Hash Tagged was the most brunchy item the team dined on; definitely a winner. The Rack of Heaven Ribs had a delicious Guinness glaze and the mashed potatoes were some of the best the team has ever had on Disney property. The pancakes were delightful and affordable, but there are more impressive items on the menu. The Worth the Wait Beef Sandwich was large enough for two people and had hearty, robust flavors. The kids chicken fingers were good, different than the standard Disney chicken fingers or nuggets; the fries were “the bomb” according to our junior field researcher.

The delicious brunch fare combined with the bread to start, and an Irish beer or two, and our team was ready to snooze in the booth. Thankfully the lively music and entertainment kept them energized. The tables were spaced out compared to the old days. The staff is diligent about reminding guests not to get up without a mask. Spacing markers are present in the lobby and at the exit.

Raglan Road Dining Room
Raglan Road Dining Room

Our readers give Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant a 93% thumbs up and it is ranked number 11 out of 103 similar full service options at Walt Disney World. That puts it at the top tier, and it is not merely the luck of the Irish that earns Raglan Road such high marks. The food is delicious and high quality, and the atmosphere is hard to beat. Brunch is offered on Saturdays and Sundays, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. It’s hard to choose between brunch here and brunch at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ – both offer some of the best meals on Disney property.

Have you had brunch at Raglan Road before? Where’s your favorite place to brunch at Disney?
