Rise of the Resistance and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Issues – Disney World Wait Times for Tuesday, January 5, 2021

Although the holiday crowds have dwindled, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is having some high wait times. Today’s average wait times at Hollywood Studios rank at number 2 out of the past 30 days. There are two causes: Rise of the Resistance is having a bumpy day of operations, but also Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has been unexpectedly not functioning for the past few days. The rest of the Walt Disney World parks are having fairly low posted wait times, with EPCOT having some of the lowest wait times of the past 30 days.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios Wait Times

What a rough day! It can be assumed that today’s high wait times aren’t due to large crowds so much, but rather to the operational issues at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Rise of the Resistance. The issues at Rise also caused Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run to have an average wait time today of 83 minutes. Its 7-day average is 76 minutes, so today ranks #1 for this week. Its 30-day average is 68 minutes, so today ranks #2 for the past month. Its 365-day average is 59 minutes, so today ranks #26 for the past year.

You can see that after 2:00 p.m. when park hopping to other parks became an option that wait times in Hollywood Studios start to decline.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror had an average wait time today of 80 minutes. Its 7-day average is 74 minutes, so today ranks #1 for this week. Its 30-day average is 65 minutes, so today ranks #2 for the past month. We received 9 actual wait times today, and the actual wait averaged 86% of the posted wait time, which means the actual wait time was around 68 minutes.

Toy Story Mania! had an average wait time today of 39 minutes. Its 7-day average is 39 minutes, so today ranks #2 for this week. Today was still a relatively busy day at Magic Kingdom, cracking the top 10 of the past 30 days. There is an uptick in the average posted wait times at 3:00 p.m. and onward indicating Magic Kingdom’s popular hop over to once Park Hopper Hours kick in at 2:00 p.m.

Astro Orbiter had an average wait time today of 42 minutes. Its 7-day average is 41 minutes, so today ranks #3 for this week. Its 30-day average is 40 minutes, so today ranks #13 for the past month. Its 365-day average is 30 minutes, so today ranks #23 for the past year.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin had an average wait time today of 40 minutes. Its 7-day average is 42 minutes, so today ranks #5 for this week. Its 30-day average is 42 minutes, so today ranks #19 for the past month. We received 5 actual wait times today, and the actual wait averaged 52% of the posted wait time, which means the actual wait times on average were around 23 minutes.

EPCOT Wait Times

If you ever want to feel like you have EPCOT to yourself, visit on the rare days that there isn’t a festival going on. All attractions had some of the lowest posted wait times of the past 7 days, except for Gran Fiesta Tour, and there’s a good reason. It seems Donald Duck is taking the day off, his animatronic at the finale scene has been removed. As word spread across the internet Disney bloggers (guilty!) flocked to see the lack of Donald for themselves.

Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros had an average wait time today of 13 minutes. Its 7-day average is 13 minutes, so today ranks #3 for this week. Its 30-day average is 11 minutes, so today ranks #8 for the past month. Its 365-day average is 10 minutes, so today ranks #52 for the past year.

Journey Into Imagination With Figment had an average wait time today of 10 minutes. Its 7-day average is 27 minutes, so today ranks #6 for this week. Its 30-day average is 20 minutes, so today ranks #29 for the past month. Its 365-day average is 15 minutes, so today ranks #167 for the past year.

It was a pleasant day to be in Animal Kingdom today, in fact, our field team was there today. Kali River Rapids began its refurbishment yesterday and will unavailable for a little while, which is fine because by Florida standards it is chilly right now.

DINOSAUR had an average wait time today of 50 minutes. Its 7-day average is 59 minutes, so today ranks #5 for this week. Its 30-day average is 47 minutes, so today ranks #12 for the past month. Its 365-day average is 33 minutes, so today ranks #55 for the past year.

Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain had an average wait time today of 34 minutes. Its 7-day average is 43 minutes, so today ranks #5 for this week. We received 7 actual wait times today, and the actual wait averaged 48% of the posted wait time.

Kilimanjaro Safaris had an average wait time today of 18 minutes. Its 7-day average is 33 minutes, so today ranks #6 for this week. Holiday Crowds Are Heading Home – Disney World Wait Times for Sunday, January 3, 2021

That holiday sparkle is starting to dim as holiday travelers return home. All four Walt Disney World theme parks saw a decline in their average wait times today. We received 165 Actual Wait Times from our Lines app users today. Overall, each park was about as accurate as we expect on their Posted Wait Times, but EPCOT’s actual wait times were about half of what Disney posted as the wait time – quite a difference!

Also at EPCOT we observed 9 out of 500 guests who were not wearing their mask in accordance with Disney’s guidelines. So about 98% of observed guests were wearing their masks properly. Finally, this is the second day of Park Hopping being reinstated. This could help spread out demand across the day. We’ll have a recap of how to park hop with the new procedures, and our thoughts on the experience soon.

Magic Kingdom Wait Times

Although wait times declined at Magic Kingdom today, it was not as dramatic a change as at some of the other parks. Today’s average wait times rank at number 9 of the past 30 days. It is interesting to see the increase in wait times starting around 2:30 p.m., an indicator of the amount of folks who park hopped over to Magic Kingdom today, perhaps?

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad had an average wait time today of 55 minutes. Its 7-day average is 60 minutes, so today ranks #5 for this week. Its 30-day average is 57 minutes, so today ranks #16 for the past month. We received 10 actual wait times today, and the actual wait averaged 44% of the posted wait time.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin had an average wait time today of 41 minutes. Its 7-day average is 43 minutes, so today ranks #4 for this week. Without any festival currently in place, EPCOT is a calmer place to be. Today’s average wait times ranked at number 12 of the past 30 days.

You can’t have the third day of the month without the Three Caballeros. Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros had an average wait time today of 14 minutes. Its 7-day average is 15 minutes, so today ranks #4 for this week. Its 30-day average is 11 minutes, so today ranks #7 for the past month. Its 365-day average is 10 minutes, so today ranks #38 for the past year.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios Wait Times

The decline in average wait times was not as dramatic at Hollywood Studios as compared to the other parks. A reminder that park hopping begins at 2:00 p.m. which is after the 1:00 p.m. distribution of Rise of the Resistance boarding groups. So we are not expecting to see massive amounts of guests hopping to Hollywood Studios in hopes of getting on Rise. And perhaps the folks inside Hollywood Studios who did not get a Boarding Group for the day broke free of their bonds and hopped out of the park after 2:00 p.m.

I’ve got to include Muppet*Vision 3D on this third day of the month. It had an average wait time today of 34 minutes. Its 7-day average is 34 minutes, so today ranks #4 for this week. Its 30-day average is 30 minutes, so today ranks #7 for the past month. Its 365-day average is 15 minutes, so today ranks #7 for the past year.

Rise of the Resistance had a decent day of operations. Boarding groups started to be called just before 9:00 a.m. and were progressing a little slower than the last 7 days, but otherwise have stayed on pace the rest of the day.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Wait Times

With park hopping being back in place, I expected wait times to start to really decline after 2:00 p.m. which is when park hopping is allowed. Today there was not a noticeable decline, but we’ll see how things go as park hopping becomes more “normalized.” Today’s average wait times rank at 14 out of the past 30 days at Animal Kingdom.

Today it did not take too much time to get back in time. DINOSAUR had an average wait time today of 48 minutes. Its 7-day average is 66 minutes, so today ranks #6 for this week. Its 30-day average is 48 minutes, so today ranks #13 for the past month. Its 365-day average is 33 minutes, so today ranks #62 for the past year.

Holiday Crowds Increase – Disney World Wait Times for Monday, December 28, 2020

We’ve been waiting for the holiday crowds to truly materialize and it seems with the improve weather it’s happening. Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and EPCOT had their busiest day of the past 30 days today. Ok well, today at Animal Kingdom ranked number 2 of the past 30, and EPCOT’s wait times are severely inflated. Our actual wait time data shows the waits are about half of what Disney posts.

Since it is the last Monday of 2020 we’ll look at attractions that make any Monday better, as well as the attraction at which we received actual wait times today. Speaking of, we received 151 actual wait times today from our Lines app users, thank you so much Liners!

It’s been a very cold few days by Central Florida standards, but things are thawing out. Other nearby drive-in destinations in the southeastern states have improved weather in the past 24 hours. Both of these aspects could be some of the reasons wait times today increased compared to yesterday. Still, wait times aren’t as high as they could be, especially at EPCOT.

We received 153 actual wait times in our Lines app today – thank you, Liners! Let’s take a break from the holiday clean-up and look at the numbers.

EPCOT Wait Times

Let’s start at the park that really seems to be missing Gold and Silver Annual Passholders right now. Ever since the black outs started the wait times at EPCOT have noticeably decreased. Even then Disney’s posted wait times have been inflated. The actual wait times have been around 60% of what Disney is posting.

Mission: SPACE Orange had an average wait time today of 43 minutes. Its 7-day average is 49 minutes, so today ranks #4 for this week. Its 30-day average is 33 minutes, so today ranks #4 for the past month. Its 365-day average is 28 minutes, so today ranks #35 for the past year.

Magic Kingdom Wait Times

Magic Kingdom’s wait times picked up a little bit today, but today was still a reasonable day to visit the Most Magical Place on Earth. Today ranks as number four out of the past 30 days for average posted wait times.

Rise of the Resistance is having a decent day. There are no major delays, and it is performing on pace with the past 7 days. Some of the last few days have outperformed compared to today, meaning higher number boarding groups were reached. This may be one of the reasons we are seeing slightly higher wait times across the park today.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Wait Times

Although Animal Kingdom is great in cooler weather, thanks to the animals being more active, sometimes when it gets too cold it’s outdoor attractions aren’t as fun. Today ranked number three out of the past 30 days, though actual wait times showed to be about 64% of Disney’s posted wait times.

Crowds were among the largest of the week at the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT today, while the Studios and Animal Kingdom were slower compared to other days in the past month. As part of our ongoing research, we counted 500 guests at Disney’s Animal Kingdom today, and 482 of them (96%) were following Disney’s mask guidelines. Let’s do the numbers.

Magic Kingdom Wait Times

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad had an average wait time today of 36 minutes. Its 7-day average is 37 minutes, so today ranks #4 for this week. Its 30-day average is 44 minutes, so today ranks #24 for the past month. And Seven Dwarfs Mine Train had an average wait time today of 54 minutes. Its 7-day average is 48 minutes, so today ranks #2 for this week. Its 30-day average is 60 minutes, so today ranks #22 for the past month.

Two Magic Kingdom attractions had their highest average posted wait times of the week on Sunday:

Splash Mountain had an average wait time today of 56 minutes. Its 7-day average is 44 minutes, so today ranks #1 for this week. Its 30-day average is 61 minutes, so today ranks #17 for the past month. We received 7 actual wait times at Splash today, and the actual wait averaged 73% of the posted wait time.
Space Mountain had an average wait time today of 42 minutes. Its 7-day average is 27 minutes, so today ranks #1 for this week. Its 30-day average is 42 minutes, so today ranks #16 for the past month.

Secondary attractions had average wait times for the week:

And Na’vi River Journey had an average wait time today of 45 minutes. Its 7-day average is 39 minutes, so today ranks #1 for this week. Its 30-day average is 46 minutes, so today ranks #14 for the past month. We received 7 actual wait times today at Na’vi, and the actual wait averaged 92% of the posted wait time.

Posted wait times at Kilimanjaro Safaris continue to be about twice your actual wait. Kilimanjaro Safaris had an average wait time today of 24 minutes.
