Bill Farmer the Voice Actor of Goofy Answers is Goofy a Dog?

One of the biggest Disney questions ever asked must be is Disney’s Goofy a dog? This has been asked in films, between Cast Members and definitely between Cast Members and guests! Well now is the time to find out as Bill Farmer, the voice actor of Goofy, met with Yahoo! to discuss this long-standing debate!

Is Goofy a dog?

According to Bill Farmer, who has been the voice of Goofy since 1987, Goofy is definitely “not a dog”! Whilst Pluto is a dog, Goofy “seems to be in the canine family” but more distantly related like the wolf, according to Bill. He said more like “Canis Goofus”, which he coins is the “technical Latin term for what Goofy is”, in that “he is just Goofy!”.

Therefore, during this period of quietness caused by COVID-19, we have not only received an explanation but also an answer to the big debate about whether or not Goofy is a dog and how Goofy and Pluto can look so similar! Or why, in the Fab 5, (Mickey Mouse and Friends), why there are two characters which look like dogs, (Goofy and Pluto) and why only Pluto acts like a dog, whereas Goofy appears more humanlike! Well… it’s because Goofy is his own species… “Canis Goofus!”

However, whilst Bill Farmer is definitely a Goofy specialist, being the voice actor for Goofy for over 20 years, we have yet to hear from the Walt Disney Company to confirm this original species! What do you think? Is Goofy a dog?

Don’t forget to tune into Disney+ to watch Bill Farmer in his new documentary series, “It’s a Dog’s Life with Bill Farmer”. The 10-episode series, features Bill going cross country to get an inside look into the incredible and diverse set of jobs dogs are doing to aid humans!
