Select Disneyland Hotels Are Now Accepting New Reservations Starting August 1st

Last month, Disney announced its proposal to reopen Downtown Disney on July 9th, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure on July 17th, and select hotels on July 23rd.

And while Downtown Disney will be moving forward with its plans to welcome back guests starting this Thursday, the other Disneyland Resort reopenings have been delayed.

Since it is unknown when Disney’s Californian Hotel and Disney’s Paradise Pier Resort will reopen, we chatted with a Disneyland Resort Cast Member who confirmed these hotels are no longer accepting new bookings for the month of July. The earliest new reservation you can now make is August 1st. It is also still unknown when the Disneyland Hotel will reopen.

The Cast Member also informed us that the standard reservation cancellation policy has been re-instated.

Previously, the policy stated Disney would waive cancellation fees through July 22nd. Now the policy says they will work with guests that may have been impacted by the closure with no specific date listed. As of today, here’s how Disneyland Resort’s cancellation fee policy now reads on its website.

The friendly Cast Member also informed us it is still unknown at this time when Disneyland Resort’s theme parks and hotels will reopen. We’ll continue to keep an eye on Disneyland’s homepage for the most up-to-date information regarding Disneyland’s phased reopening and we’ll let you know as soon as Disneyland releases more information soon!

How to Choose a Walt Disney World Hotel

Now that the Walt Disney World hotels are starting to reopen, you may again be in vacation planning mode. One of the first decisions you’ll have to make is choosing your hotel. There are pros and cons to most accommodation options. I’ve had great experiences at All-Star Sports, the Grand Floridian, and everything in between, but not every hotel is right for every situation. Here are some things to think about as you embark on your planning.

How to Choose a Walt Disney World Hotel — The “best” hotel really isn’t the best if it’s not right for your needs.

What is my budget? Budget is, of course, key to most vacation planning. There’s no sense in planning a deluxe hotel stay if your budget is tiny. However, there are many ways to slice and dice vacation spending. So, given the total amount you want to spend on your trip, think about whether you might want to splurge on accommodations but skimp on dining; or skimp on accommodations but go all out with meals, park hoppers, and a shopping spree; or find a happy medium. Whichever route you choose, keep your overall vacation budget in mind.
How long are you planning to stay at Disney World? Consider if your length of stay will be impacted by your hotel. For example, if you’re visiting for a two-night visit when you’ll be at the parks from sunup to sundown, you might be perfectly okay at All-Star Sports, but if you’re staying for two weeks and planning leisurely non-park days, then a hotel with larger rooms and more amenities might be a better fit.
How many people are in my travel party? Larger parties who want to stay in one room will have to avoid places like the regular rooms at the value resorts. Be sure to look at maximum room capacity.
Are the people in my travel party comfortable sharing a bed? There are many situations where you’re comfortable sharing a room with people, but might not want to sleep in the same bed with them: unrelated adult friends, opposite gender siblings, siblings from blended families, in-laws, etc. In those cases you’ll want to look at not just the capacity of the room, but also at the number of sleep surfaces (beds, daybeds, trundles, and so on) in the room. For example, the standard rooms at All-Star Music have a capacity of four guests, but only two separate sleep surfaces. If you’re a party of three who don’t want to share beds, you could be better off in, say, a deluxe hotel room with two beds and a daybed.
Are there issues with sharing a bathroom? When I travel with my three young adult daughters, we’re fine sharing beds, but encounter issues with four people sharing a bathroom. Getting ready in the morning takes an absurd amount of time when we all have to share one commode, shower, and hair dryer. If I’m traveling with all of my girls, for about the same price I’d opt for two rooms at a value resort (or a family suite) thus having access to two bathrooms, rather than one room with one bathroom in a deluxe.
What are the ages of people in my travel party? While every Disney hotel is appropriate for small children, some are more appropriate than others. Think about whether your kids would be excited to see a giant dalmatian at their hotel or to go down a twisty water slide at the pool. On the other hand, older adults might prefer a resort with a smaller physical footprint that would allow them to enjoy the amenities with minimal walking.
Does anyone in my group have any physical limitations? Guests with mobility issues might appreciate staying at a resort, such as the Wilderness Lodge, where there’s no need to navigate a wheelchair or walker outdoors when visiting the hotel restaurants and shops.
What are the park hours during the time of my visit? During some times of the year, the theme parks close early. If you like to be active in the later part of the evening, you might like to have a hotel that’s near Disney Springs for easier access to nighttime activities.
Am I planning to visit a theme park every day? If you’ll be at the parks all day, every day, then where you stay might not be particularly important. If you’re planning a leisurely day off from park touring, then you may want to look at a hotel with a more interesting pool or a wider range of recreational opportunities.
Will I be at one theme park more than the others? Disney World encompasses about 40 square miles of property. At some times of the year, getting from your hotel to a distant theme park could take nearly an hour. If you’re planning to spend most of your time at a particular theme park, you could save transportation time by staying at one of the hotels closer that park.
What form of transportation will I be using to get to the parks and resorts? If you’re driving your own car, staying at a huge resort like Coronado Springs might not be a big deal, but you could be frustrated there if you’re relying on a bus that makes multiple stops before you even leave hotel property. Similarly, if you have stroller-age children, staying at a resort which uses Disney busses at the primary form of transportation could be frustrating due to constant need to fold the stroller. A monorail or Skyliner resort might make your life easier.
Is there a reason why I need to be in the same room with everyone in my party? Some hotel-related issues (like the crowded bathroom scenario above) can be solved by breaking a party into two rooms. With adults, the two rooms could be near each other, but not connected, and still work. But if, for example, you’re an adult traveling with several minors, the rooms would have to connect for the two-room strategy to work. While Disney can often make connecting rooms happen, they do not guarantee that you’ll have connecting rooms if you request them. I personally have been in a situation where connecting rooms were requested but not received. If you’re an adult with more than three minors, you’ll have to look at accommodations like the Art of Animation or All-Star Music family suites, a multi-room DVC villa, or a deluxe resort that sleeps five.
Is there a reason why I want or need to cook my own food? Regular hotel rooms at Walt Disney World do not include microwave ovens or any other in-room means to cook food. If cooking is important to you (due to allergies, cost savings, or other issues), then you’ll want to look at the family suites or DVC studio villas, which have a microwave and toaster, or a larger DVC villas equipped with a full kitchen.
Will I need to work during my stay at WDW? If you’re combining your WDW visit with some work from “home,” you may want to stay somewhere with a real desk or an extra room for quieter Zoom calls. The larger DVC villas might fit the bill for this.
How loud is my party? If you know that members of your party are loud, for example a fussy baby prone to extended nighttime crying, you might prefer accommodations that are isolated from other guests such as a Fort Wilderness cabin or a Saratoga Springs treehouse villa.
What time do we go to sleep? Parties with kids that go to bed early and are light sleepers might want to avoid the hotels within close proximity to evening fireworks.
Will my participation in an event be easier if I stay in a particular location? If you’re visiting WDW for a runDisney race, you might want to be at a hotel that’s close to race starting line. If you’re mostly visiting for the Food & Wine festival, you may want stay at a hotel within walking distance to EPCOT.
Am I willing to change hotels during my Disney World stay? Some of the “where do I stay” issues can be resolved by staying at two different places. For example, staying at a value resort for part of your stay can save money making a few nights at a deluxe possible. Or staying at a Magic Kingdom area resort when you’re visiting the Magic Kingdom and then moving to an EPCOT resort when you’re visiting EPCOT could save some transportation time.
Does anyone in your party have an obsession that matches a resort theme? Many children go through a particular animal obsession phase, for example. If you’re in that zone, a stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge with a view of the savannah might be the best choice. Or if you love Hawaii, the Polynesian Village resort might be your best choice.
How often do I visit Disney World? If you’re a frequent visitor, you may want to change things up by visiting a different resort every time, or you may want to stick with a tried and true favorite.
Am I celebrating anything? If you’re visiting WDW on a honeymoon, anniversary, big birthday, or other special event, you may want to consider whether the occasion will feel more festive if you’re at one of the more posh hotels.

NEWS! Disney World Just Changed A LOT Of Menus, and We’ve Got The DETAILS!

Disney World’s theme parks are gearing up to reopen next month, and to prepare several Disney World resort hotels are getting ready to welcome back guests starting next week!

But if you’re looking forward to enjoying one of your favorite meals at one of these Disney World restaurants, you might be out of luck!

Just like we saw right before several restaurants reopened in Disney Springs, menus are getting slashed left and right! We’ve seen lots of starters, appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, desserts, and kids’ menu selections fly out the window today! But don’t worry — it’s not all bad news! Several restaurants have added a bunch of new boozy drinks! Let’s find out if your favorite menu items have survived the chopping block.

Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort

Beaches & Cream

One of our favorite spots to eat at Disney World is Beaches & Cream! So far, they’ve cut the Beaches & Cream Salad, Patty Melt, Turkey and Applewood-smoked Bacon Sandwich, and Salmon Sandwich with Bacon Aioli from the menu.

No Way Jose Sundae

They’ve also erased their Plant-based Bowl of Chili, Chicken Noodle Soup, and dessert offerings including Apple À la Mode and Beaches Chocolate Cake! Never fret, though! You’ll still be able to get your Kitchen Sinks and No Way José Sundaes! They’ve re-emerged unscathed!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Sanaa

We love dining at Sanaa where you can watch exotic animals grazing while you eat (or are THEY watching US eat?!). Either way, you won’t find Shrimp Tinashe Sauté, Boerewors and Spiced Eggs, Lamb Kefta Skewers, Shrimp Over Harvest Salad, Boerewors Braai Grilled South African Sausage, Kenya Coffee Barbecue Sandwich, or Seasonal Sustainable Fish on the lunch menu any longer!

Animal Kingdom Lodge

For dinnertime, the Artisanal Cheese Selection, Berbere-braised Lamb Shank and Traditional Sosatie Braai Lamb with Apricots, South African Braaivleis Fire-grilled Meats with Traditional Accompaniments, and Mozambique Chicken Roast Piri Piri Half Chicken have been taken off the menu. Desserts offerings that are no longer available include the Caramel N’dizi Banana Financier, Spice Trade Candy Bar, and Chakalaka Poached Pear with Frangipane.

For kids’ entrees, Chicken Breast is no longer offered, nor are sides including Roasted Potatoes, Green Beans, Quinoa Pilaf, and the African Shield Dessert.

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Whispering Canyon Cafe

Over at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Whispering Canyon Cafe has also reduced its menu. House-smoked Salmon Frittata, Benedicts Traditional, Vegetable Two-Poached Eggs served atop House-made Buttermilk-Cheddar Biscuits, Flapjacks Bourbon-Maple Syrup, and Stone-ground Cheese Grits have been sliced off the breakfast options.

House-made Cornbread with Honey-Butter, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Smoked Beef and Vegetable Soup, and Seasonal Fruit Cobbler has also been taken off. Bourbon Cowboy, a mixed drink, has also been removed.

The kid’s entree Fish of the Day has been replaced with a Chicken Breast while sides of Broccoli, Rice Pilaf, Mashed Potatoes, and Farro Fruit Salad are no longer available.

Roaring Fork has added a bunch of beers to their menu!

You’ll now find Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Hard Cider, Corona Extra Lager, Heineken, Blue Moon Belgian White Ale, Yuengling Traditional Lager, Bud Light, Budweiser, Coors Light, and Miller Lite in their grab ‘n’ go refrigerated cases!

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

The Wave…of American Flavors

The Wave…of American Flavors will not be serving its Breakfast Buffet, and they’ve also removed their Glazed Donut French Toast and Egg White Frittata breakfast menu offerings. Meanwhile, they’ve added a Seasonal Fruit Plate for $9, Continental Breakfast for $10, and Oatmeal for $7. The Egg White Omelet from the kids’ menu has also been removed.

The Wave…of American Flavors Entrance

For their lunch menu, the Prince Edward Island Mussels, Rock Shrimp Taco, Tikka Masala, Dashi Noodle Bowl, Pappardelle Pasta, French Dip Sandwich, and Sweet Temptations The Wave Cheese Board have been cut while the kids’ menu Grilled Cheese and Grilled Steak Kabob options have been taken off.

No Longer Serving Their Breakfast Buffet

The Wave’s Seasonal Dessert Flight which included Pineapple Cheesecake, Strawberry Mousse Cake, Florida Key Lime Tart have also been taken away along with the No Sugar-Added Dessert and Trio of Sorbet.

Contempo Cafe

At the Contempo Cafe, they’re stocking the bar with new beers including Stella Artois Lager, Samuel Adams Boston Lager, Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Hard Cider, Blue Point Toasted Lager, Cigar City Florida Cracker Hefeweizen, Samuel Adams Seasonal Beer, Blue Moon Belgian White Ale, Yuengling Traditional Lager, and Budweiser.

Kitchen and Pick Up Area at The Contempo Cafe

For wine offerings, they’ve added Parducci Pinot Grigio, Copa Pinot Grigio, and other canned alcoholic beverages including Cutwater Gin & Tonic, Cutwater Rum & Ginger, and Jose Cuervo Classic Lime Margarita.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

Grand Floridian Cafe

Grand Floridian Cafe is a great place to hit up on your way to Magic Kingdom, but you won’t find their Bacon and Egg Salad Cobb Salad, Smoked Salmon, Spicy Chorizo Benedict, Lobster Benedict, or Benedict Flight on their breakfast menu when they reopen.

They’ve also taken away their Traditional Reuben Sandwich, Seasonal Soup, French Onion Soup, Artisan Cheese Selection, House-breaded Fried Mozzarella, House-made Turkey Meatloaf Shrimp and Grits, Cast Iron-seared Pork Chop, Sirloin Steak and Scallops, and The Cafe Sandwich.

Grand Floridian Cafe Dining Room

Enhancements such as their Shrimp Skewer and Scallop Skewer are not available while they’ve also removed their Chocolate Fondue, Apple Crisp, and Raspberry Sorbet from the dessert menu.

New York Strip Steak

Kids’ appetizers including Chicken Noodle Soup and Cucumbers and Tomatoes Served with Ranch Dressing have been cut while kids’ create-your-own entrées Shrimp Skewer and Spaghetti with Turkey Meatballs options have also been taken away.

Gasparilla Grill

Gasparilla Grill has been given a boozy upgrade! You’ll now find a selection of alcoholic beverages including Cut Water Bloody Mary, Lime Margarita, Kahlúa Mudslide, Beer Schöfferhofer Pink Grapefruit Hefeweizen, Bud Light Lime, Ciderboys Grand Mimosa Apple Orange Hard Cider, Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Hard Cider, Cigar City Jai Alai IPA, Kona Big Wave Golden Ale, Oskar Blues Dale’s Pale Ale, Redbridge Lager, Budweiser, Coors Light, and Miller Lite.

Gasparilla Grill

Wine by the bottle selections now includes Drouhin Pinot Noir, Bellafina Moscato, Milbrandt Cabernet Sauvignon, KRIS Pinot Grigio, and Grayson Chardonnay while by the glass servings of Drouhin Pinot Noir, Francois Montand Brut Sparkling Wine, Milbrandt Cabernet Sauvignon, Bellafina Moscato, KRIS Pinot Grigio, Grayson Chardonnay, and Copa White Zinfandel are now offered.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Captain Cook’s

Captain Cook’s will have a bevy of new beverages including Heineken, Bud Light Lime, Michelob Ultra, Bud Light, and Budweiser.

Wine offerings now include Natura Chardonnay, Copa Cabernet Sauvignon, Copa Chardonnay, Copa Pinot Grigio, Woodbridge Cabernet Sauvignon, Woodbridge Chardonnay, and Woodbridge Pinot Grigio.

Kona Cafe

Onto Kona Cafe, a bunch of menu items got the ax. For breakfast, the Lighter Fare Tropical Fruit Plate, Spice-rubbed Salmon Plate, Polynesian Egg Platter, Seven Seas Samoan Poached Eggs, and Turkey Hash Loco Moco Traditional Island Brunch have been cut. However, the plant-based Loco Moco option is still available. The Ham and Cheese Omelet, and French Toast Topped with Caramel-Banana Sauce have also been given their walking papers, but don’t worry — you can still get Tonga Toast!

Kona Cafe

As for lunch and dinner offerings, the Shrimp Tempura, Hamachi-Tuna Roll, Dragon Roll, Polly Lolly Roll, Shrimp Fire Cracker Roll, and several Samplers have been removed. The Seafood Pu Pu Platter, Polynesian Tuna Niçoise, Duck Fried Rice with Leg Confit, Big Kahuna Burger, Hawaiian-style Reuben, Char Siu Duck Ramen, and Beef Pho have also been dispatched too. On the kids’ menu, the Pasta with Marinara selection has been taken away.

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

Rix Sports Bar & Grill

Heading over to Rix Sports Bar & Grill, the Rix Reuben, Short Rib Chili, Ceasar Salad, Wedge Salad, Ale-battered Fish & Chips, Florida Grouper Sandwich, Turkey Burger, Bacon Cheeseburger, Black & Blue Burger, BBQ Ranch Burger, and Queso Fundido Burger have been removed from the menu.

Rix Rueben

We had just stopped by to try the new Rix Rueben, so we hope it doesn’t stay away too long since it was very yummy!

Disney’s Old Key West Resort

Olivia’s Cafe

Meanwhile, a bunch of items have been taken off Olivia Cafe’s breakfast menu including their Hash and Two Eggs-Any Style, Sombrero Beach Omelet, Crab Cake-Eggs Benedict, Monroe Egg White Omelet, and Key West Hash Tamari-marinated Tofu as well as a number of side items such as Olivia’s Famous Grits and Biscuits and Sausage Gravy.

For dinner, they’ve removed the Tomato Mozzarella Salad and added a new Beets and Citrus Salad for $11 which includes Sangria-poached Beets, Avocado Purée, Orange Segments, Sunflower Seeds, Arugula, and a White Balsamic Vinaigrette.

Olivia’s has taken their Mascarpone Cheesecake and Mile Marker Zero (No Sugar Added) Tropical Panna Cotta off of their dessert menu. For their kids’ create-your-Own entrées, Spaghetti Squash and Turkey Meatballs, Chickpea Slider, and Seasonal Grilled Fish meal options have been cut and side offerings including Broccolini, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, No Sugar-Added Sorbet With House-made Gummies, and Ice Cream Sundaes have been taken away.

Our last stop brings us to Artist’s Palette where you’ll find a new vast array of alcoholic beverages. You’ll find canned Kahlúa Mudslide, Blue Marble Bloody Mary, Truly Wild Berry Hard Seltzer, Beer Schöfferhofer Pink Grapefruit Hefeweizen, New Belgium Fat Tire Amber Ale, Cigar City Jai Alai IPA, Concrete Beach Havana Lager, Goose Island IPA, M.I.A. Brewing Tourist Trappe Belgian Tripel, Strongbow Hard Cider, Coors Light, and Miller Lite.

For wine by the bottle, there’s Moet and Chandon Imperial Sparkling Wine, Banfi Rosa Regale Sparkling Wine, Rainstorm Pinot Noir, Drouhin Pinot Noir, Black Pearl Cabernet Sauvignon-Shiraz, Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling, Sokol Blosser Evolution Lucky No. 9 White Blend, Fess Parker Chardonnay, and Parker Station Pinot Noir.

But wait, there’s more! Martini and Rossi Asti Sparkling Wine, Coppo Moncalvino Moscato, Kenwood White Zinfandel, Island Grove Blueberry Moscato, Rosemount Estate Chardonnay, Sartori di Verona Pinot Grigio, Columbia Crest Two Vines Merlot, Banfi Chianti Superiore, Once Upon a Vine Big Bad Red, Hogue Cabernet Sauvignon, Copa Moscato, Copa Pinot Grigio, and Stella Rosa Pink are also on the menu.

It’s important to note that all of these menu changes MAY be temporary. Plenty of spots in Disney Springs have been offering limited menus upon reopening, and there’s no indication those cuts are permanent. The same very well COULD apply to these Disney World restaurants.

Those are all the menu changes we’ve noticed so far, but we’ll be on the lookout for more, especially now that we know when Disney World hotel guests will be able to book dining reservations once again!

At the start of the parks’ temporary closure, all of Disney’s Skyliner gondolas were put away for safekeeping.

And while we just saw the carousel at Disney Springs’ marketplace spinning along with Cinderella Castle receiving her royal makeover, you won’t believe what else we just saw!

Disney’s Skyliner gondolas have returned to their tracks and they’re on the move once more! Man, we’ve really missed seeing these guys! The wires looked so naked without them!

Keep in mind, Disney World hasn’t indicated whether or not Disney’s Skyliner will resume when some of the hotels begin to reopen on June 22nd or when the theme parks reopen July 11th and July 15th.

So far we only know details about a few modes of transportation that will be back on track soon including Disney’s Magical Express airport shuttle as well as the buses that transport guests back and forth from the theme parks and resort hotels. Disney has also shared the monorail and ferry boats will be operating, but service will be limited due to reduced capacity.

Disney has also confirmed Minnie Vans won’t be operating, so the only thing missing is what’s going to happen with Disney’s Skyliner? We’re eager to hear more information and we’re taking the gondolas being out as a GOOD sign we might find out something soon!

NEWS: Legoland in Central Florida Is Officially Reopening June 1st

While yesterday we informed you Legoland Florida had received initial approval to reopen June 1st, Governor Ron DeSantis has now given the Winter Haven City-based theme park the green light.

Legoland has officially announced it will be reopening its Central Florida location in just over a week.

Once its plan was approved by the Florida Governor, Legoland immediately sent out announcements. We received an email moments ago confirming June 1st if Legoland’s official reopening date.

Legoland’s reopening plan included modifications such as operating at a maximum 50% capacity (about 6,000 guests). The park will be “highly recommending” the use of face masks by guests, but is not requiring them at this time. For the water park, masks are only recommended for use when visitors are dry.

Face Masks Are Strongly-Encouraged, But Not Mandatory at Legoland

Face coverings do not need to be worn in Legoland by:

Children under 2 years of age
People who have trouble breathing
Anyone who is unable to remove the face covering without assistance

Additionally, Legoland says they will be providing guests with face coverings if they did not bring one.

Legoland’s New Health Screening Process

Guests with temperatures of 100.4 or higher will not be allowed to enter the park. According to Legoland’s website they also say you will not be admitted if you have:

Coughing, fever (over 100.4 º F), or difficulty breathing
Traveled internationally in the last 14 days
Been on a cruise ship in the last 14 days
Been in a location with widespread COVID-19 transmission in the last 14 days
Been in close contact with a person known or suspected of having COVID-19 in the last 14 days
Tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 14 days

Legoland says their touchless temperature screenings will be required for all guests, including children, and employees before entering the park. Any families or groups that have a member with a fever (of 100.4º F or above) will not be allowed in.

Disinfecting Touchpoints and Commonly Used Surfaces More Frequently

Legoland says they will be cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces more regularly especially “tables and chairs, service counters, LEGO^® Bricks, ride restraints, door handles, and more.” They will also be adding more hand sanitizer dispensers and hygiene stations throughout the park. Similar to Disney World’s My Disney Experience app, guests can use Legoland’s official mobile app (which is also free) to locate these additional locations.

Social Distancing Markers and Additional Safety Measures

Markers have been installed throughout the resort reminding guests to stay six feet apart while employees will monitor the queues to ensure social distancing is being maintained. Ride vehicles will be loaded leaving empty seats between guests. Dining areas are also being reconfigured to ensure a safe distance separates each parties’ table.

Indoor shops and restaurants will have a limited capacity while the self-service buffets will also be reconfigured to reduce the number of touchpoints including cutlery and condiments being left out on the table. These items will now be provided to guests upon request. Some guest experiences, entertainment offerings, retail locations, restaurants, and other park features such as water fountains may be temporarily suspended.

New Safety Measures at Legoland’s Hotel and Other Recreational Areas

Inside the hotels, Legoland is asking only one party per elevator and to take the stairs where possible to help maintain social distancing regulations. For their mini-golf course, they are asking groups to maintain a one-hole distance at all times.

Now that Governor Ron DeSantis has twelve other reopening proposals of Central Florida attractions to consider, we could know more details about other theme parks that are planning to reopen soon. So far, Disney World is expected to submit its proposal next week while Universal Studios has requested a reopening date to receive guests starting June 5th (which is still pending final approval).
