These Disney Live-Action Films Will Debut on Disney+ Earlier than Expected

These Disney Live-Action Films Will Debut on Disney+ Earlier than Expected. Many of our favorite films are currently available to stream on Disney+, but what about titles that have yet to debut?

Due to existing contracts between streaming services and television networks, many Disney and related titles could not be added to the Disney+ library at the time of launch. That being said, it seems several live-action Disney movies will be headed to Disney+ sooner than expected!

Here are the titles coming soon(er) to Disney+:

The Jungle Book (2016)

“Raised by a family of wolves since birth, Mowgli (Neel Sethi) must leave the only home he’s ever known when the fearsome tiger Shere Khan (Idris Elba) unleashes his mighty roar. Guided by a no-nonsense panther (Ben Kingsley) and a free-spirited bear (Bill Murray), the young boy meets an array of jungle animals, including a slithery python and a smooth-talking ape. Along the way, Mowgli learns valuable life lessons as his epic journey of self-discovery leads to fun and adventure.”

The Jungle Book was set to swing onto Disney+ beginning May 30, 2021, but the streaming service has changed that date to June 19th 2020.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

“Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Capt. Jack Sparrow feels the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost sailors led by his old nemesis, the evil Capt. Salazar, escape from the Devil’s Triangle. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it, he must forge an uneasy alliance with a brilliant and beautiful astronomer and a headstrong young man in the British navy.”

The last of the Pirates films was to be added to the library on December 2nd, 2020 and now you can watch Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales starting Friday, July 24th, 2020.

Beauty and the Beast (2017)

“An arrogant prince is cursed to live as a terrifying beast until he finds true love. Strangely, his chance comes when he captures an unwary clockmaker, whose place is then taken by his bold and beautiful daughter Belle. Helped by the Beast’s similarly enchanted servants, including a clock, a teapot and a candelabra, Belle begins to see the sensitive soul behind the fearsome facade. But as time runs out, it soon becomes obvious that Belle’s cocky suitor Gaston is the real beast of the piece.”

The live action Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Emma Thompson, Ewan McGregor, and Ian McKellen, was scheduled to stream via Disney+ on October 1, 2020, but has been moved up to August 21, 2020.

Alice Through the Looking Glass

“After slipping through a mirror, Alice finds herself back in Underland with the White Queen, the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Her friends tell her that the Mad Hatter is in a funk over the loss of his family. Hoping to save his loved ones, Alice steals the Chronosphere from Time to travel into the past. While there, she encounters the younger Hatter and the evil Red Queen.”

Alice Through the Looking Glass was originally intended to join the roster on July 11, 2022, but will now be available to stream on Disney+ beginning August 28, 2020.

Disney’s ‘Atlantis’ Director Shares the Film Was Supposed to Get a Sequel in Theaters

Disney’s ‘Atlantis: The Lost Empire’ Director Shares the Film was Supposed to Get a Sequel in Theaters. As 3D animation quality improved rapidly between the 90’s, 00’s and 10’s the fight for 2D animated films to stay relevant and exciting caused several fantastic stories to be overshadowed by films featuring the latest in animation techniques. Though we thoroughly enjoy 3D animated films, there is just something about 2D animation that helps us to remember a simpler time and see the talent and effort the ink and paint artists had to give in order to bring us unforgettable stories. Authors Note: We LOVE our VFX and CGI artists out there, and your work is absolutely incredible, but we gotta give our favorite 2D animated films some love here!

One such 2D animated film from Walt Disney Studios is Atlantis: The Lost Empire. The film has been a fan favorite for nearly two decades now and with the surge in animated film remakes by Disney, it has easily climbed to the top of the “most wanted remakes” list. Many fans believe the film was not given enough credit and claim it was at an instant disadvantage when it premiered in theaters alongside the highly anticipated films Shrek (Dreamworks) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (Paramount Pictures).

Had the movie been a box office success it is more than likely we would have seen a full fledged sequel premiere in theaters. Actually it’s more than likely. We WOULD have seen a sequel in theaters, at least according to the films director Kirk Wise. Kirk shared that not only was the film intended to get a sequel, but Disney had gotten so far as to create an outline and storyboard for the shelved sequel.

“Believe it or not we did,” Wise revealed. “[Story supervisor] John Sanford, Gary and I actually concocted an idea for a sequel to Atlantis. It had no relation to the Atlantis TV series that was being developed at Disney Television Animation. This was a feature-length, full-on, full-blown sequel to Atlantis.”

“We were going to have a new villain in the story. The villain was going to be wearing big, scary, wool, bulky, World War I-style clothing with a frightening gasmask to obscure it’s face; a little Darth Vader-esque,” Wise continued. “And this villain was going to try and retake Atlantis and finish the job that Rourke was unable to accomplish. And the big twist in the climax of the movie is that the villain is unmasked and it turns out to be Helga Sinclair. Plot twist!”

You may be asking yourself, “Now wait a minute, didn’t she die in the first film?” The short answer is No, we never actually see Helga Sinclair die on screen. It’s just assumed she would have either succumbed to her injuries from her fall or to the lava flow when the volcano erupted. But according to Kirk’s statement, Helga miraculously survived the whole ordeal!

Instead, Disney created a direct-to-video sequel called “Atlantis: Milo’s Return”. In this animated sequel to “Atlantis: The Lost Empire,” the discoverer of the submerged continent, Milo, and his new wife, Queen Kida, are startled when friends led by explorer Preston tell them that the monsters meant to protect their land are causing destruction on the surface. Milo travels with Preston and his crew to Iceland, Arizona and Norway to stop the havoc, while Kida considers having Atlantis make contact with the outside world.

Though the sequel’s performance was subpar, the story wasn’t nearly as bad as the degraded animation quality made it appear. It seems the intended sequel storyline by Kirk and Gary would have made the audience more invested in the continuing story, but such is life.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire fans have been waiting patiently to hear from Disney about the rumors circulating that they are developing a live-action remake of the 2001 animated film. The claim has gone so far as to share that the studio is reportedly looking to cast Tom Holland as Milo Thatch.

My two cents on the matter, IF Disney does decide to do an Atlantis: The Lost Empire live-action film I actually would love to see it turn into a trilogy. There are so many avenues to explore and stories to be told about the lost city of Atlantis and the thematic elements would be spectacular in theaters. I mean come on, those crystal necklaces and the journal from the film practically sell themselves, Disney.

An official announcement has yet to be made by Disney regarding a live-action remake, but if the project does get the green light what are some of the casting choices you would like to see for the live-action film? Would you rather see a live-action remake or a full fledged animated sequel in theaters? We would love for you to share your ideas and thoughts in the comments.

Rumored: Hercules to Make First MCU Appearance in Upcoming Marvel Film

Hercules to Make First MCU Appearance in Upcoming Marvel Film. According to The Cinema Spot, another long standing Marvel hero is on the way! Hercules is rumored to make his first Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance in Marvel Studios’ Eternals.

No, we are not talking about the Disney animated style Hercules we all know and love. This would be the Hercules featured in the Marvel Comics for nearly 60 years!

Hercules first Marvel appearance was in Avengers #10 in 1964. In the Marvel Comics, Hercules is the son of Zeus, king of the gods of Olympus, and Alcmena, a mortal woman who lived about three thousand years ago. Recognizing the need for a son who would be powerful enough to defend both the Olympian gods and humanity from future dangers he foresaw, Zeus seduced Alcmena in the guise of her husband, King Amphitryon of Troezen. Thanks to Zeus’s enchantment, Hercules was born with the potential for extraordinary strength, which he first displayed before he was even one year old by strangling two serpents which attacked him. As an adult, Hercules is best known for his celebrated Twelve Labors, which were performed in part to prove his worthiness for immortality to Zeus.

The character is frequently featured with other Olympian characters, Thor, The Avengers, as well as The Eternals, which means Hercules’ introduction in the new Eternals movie is the most natural choice for his first MCU appearance.

It is currently unknown if Hercules will play a major role in the film or if he will simply be introduced in a post credit scene. It is also rumored that Hercules may make his way to one of the new Marvel Disney+ series such as Loki or She-Hulk depending on the storylines for the shows.

Eternals is set to premiere in theaters on February 12, 2021. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for all things Marvel!

Rumored: Marvel Studios and Sony Have Reached a New ‘Spider-Man’ Deal

Rumored: Marvel Studios and Sony Have Reached a New ‘Spider-Man’ Deal. Marvel Fans have been waiting to hear about the fate of one of the most iconic Marvel Superheroes, Spider-Man. For a time, it appeared negotiations had gone sour between Disney and Sony regarding the use of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and it was feared that we had seen the last of the web slinging hero after the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

It seems we will hear about an update soon that is bound to make Marvel fans very happy, at least according to Marvel insider, Roger Wardell, who shared the news via Twitter stating, “Disney understands the money-making powers of Spider-Man while Sony is aware of being completely unable to compete with the Mouse at the moment. New agreement should please many Marvel fans.”

After public outcry from fans, and some intervention from Tom Holland aka Spider-Man himself, Disney and Sony agreed to renegotiate their terms and it seems the studios may have finally reached a new agreement regarding Spidey’s future that benefit the fans and the partnering studios.

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” shared Marvel Studios CCO Kevin Feige. “Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

The final installment in the Spider-Man Trilogy is currently set to swing into theaters July 16, 2021, but the films release may be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Company for all things Marvel!
