DVC Moonlight Magic events cancelled for 2020

DVC Moonlight Magic events cancelled for 2020 Moonlight Magic

The Walt Disney company released an update to let DVC members know that the rest of this year’s Moonlight Magic events will be canceled. Disney Vacation Members were notified months ago that the previous Moonlight Magic event nights would be delayed until this summer. The rescheduled dates were listed for the months of June through August, but now Disney confirms how we won’t see the DVC events return at all for 2020.

We have attended some of these Moonlight Magic events in the past and they were quite a blast! You can read the following description to see what was offered during these DVC events:

Enjoy an evening of enchantment, entertainment and more as a theme park becomes your playground.

During a Moonlight Magic event, Members can visit a select theme park for an after-hours celebration. While attendees may get a jump start on the fun by mixing in with the regular crowd earlier in the evening, the real magic happens after the park has closed to the public.

It’s then that privileged partiers can:

  • Enjoy shorter-than-usual wait times on popular attractions
  • Meet some Disney Characters
  • Savor complimentary refreshments
  • Let loose at high-energy dance parties

Hopefully we will return to see these event nights in 2021!

News: Broadway Set to Remain Closed Until January 2021

While Disney World is prepping for its July 11th reopening and has just sold-out its Special Annual Passholder Preview Event, it could be a while before we see one of our favorite Disney musicals on Broadway again.

Instead of resuming productions in September (as they’d originally projected) it seems more likely that Broadway’s stages could remain empty until 2021.

According to a recent New York Times article, performances are now unlikely to resume for the remainder of 2020. The famous theatre district comprised of 41 theaters has remained closed since mid-March and now the Broadway League has stated theater owners and producers will refund or exchange tickets previously purchased for shows through January 3rd, 2021.

“Returning productions are currently projected to resume performances over a series of rolling dates in early 2021,” the League released in a statement. Thus far, the Disney musical Frozen, which had opened in 2018 has already announced it’s played its last show and will not be returning.

With the guidance of local health and government officials, Broadway productions are working on reopening procedures that will involve, “screening and testing, cleaning and sanitizing, wayfinding inside theaters, backstage protocols and much more.”

“I’m cautiously optimistic, with the latest information that we’re getting from scientists and medical professionals, that we’re getting close to some protocols that would work in New York and on the road,” Charlotte St. Martin, the League’s president, stated in an interview. “As long as they hold up, I do think that after the first of the year, a rolling rollout of shows reopening is possible.”

Palo Chocolate Soufflé

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter, plus more for greasing the soufflé cups
  • 6 tablespoons sugar, plus more for dusting the soufflé cups
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons Dutch-processed cocoa
  • 2 ounces (2/3 cup) semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, melted
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • Vanilla Sauce (recipe follows)

Recipe

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Set a full kettle of water on to boil.
  3. Butter six 4-ounce soufflé cups and coat with sugar; set aside.
  4. Bring the milk to a boil in a small saucepan. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the flour and cocoa to the butter and beat with a whisk to a smooth, paste-like consistency. Reduce heat and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Slowly add the hot milk, whisking until smooth, then blend in melted chocolate. Let cool for 5 minutes, then stir in egg yolks.
  6. Beat egg whites in a separate bowl until frothy. Slowly add sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, until stiff, glossy peaks form. Stir a heaping spoonful of egg whites into the chocolate, then fold in the remaining whites just until combined.
  7. Pour the batter into prepared soufflé cups. Place cups in a large baking dish and add enough boiling water to reach halfway the sides of the soufflé cups.
Bake for 20 minutes. Serve immediately, with warm vanilla sauce.

While we think that this might be the perfect way to celebrate the Fourth of July (the show DOES talk about the Revolutionary War, after all), we can’t help but feel impatient waiting to listen to Lin Manuel Miranda rap his way into our hearts.

Even if you’re willing to wait for it (but you’re still very excited about being able to watch Hamilton), you can watch the new trailer for the musical coming soon!

NEWS! Disney English Learning Centers Will Be Closing in China!

Shanghai Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland have already been welcoming guests back into the parks in China.

However, since this unprecedented situation constantly changes, Disney has had to make a few tough decisions outside of the parks in China.

Shine News has reported that Disney English will no longer be available in China after operating for 12 years. Disney English opened its learning centers with English-immersion classes that included storytelling, singing, and interactive games as a way to educate people in the country.

The first Disney English location was debuted in Shanghai in October 2008, before making its way across the country with 26 learning centers (10 of which are based in Shanghai). Over 100,000 children ages 2 through 12 have been able to expand upon their language skills through Disney’s programs.

However, classes were closed in-person in January due to health concerns, and online classes were offered starting March 19th. The Walt Disney Company Executive Vice President Mahesh Samat has stated that “Over the past few years, we have noticed a shift in consumer preferences toward online learning experiences and this trend has been accelerated by the global pandemic as families are hesitant to resume in-person supplemental learning classes.”

He went on to comment that “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to not reopen the centers. We are ensuring that each family of a Disney English learner is refunded accordingly, and we are taking care of each and every one of our affected cast members.”

Disney has notified parents that they are able to apply for refunds through July 21st. In order to visit the learning centers in person, parents should make an appointment. Anyone coming inside the Disney English locations will be required to wear masks, show their health QR codes, and bring their ID cards, bank cards, and contracts to receive a refund.
