Lucasfilm Reveals Freaky Original Concept Art for “Baby Yoda” in The Mandalorian

Lucasfilm Reveals Freaky Original Concept Art for “Baby Yoda” in The Mandalorian. In the latest episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian Lucasfilm and Disney revealed some of the original concept art for the internet sensation, The Child, aka Baby Yoda. The team received a ton of drawings and renderings for the character but ultimately chose a design based off Chris Alzmann’s now iconic character design.

The production team also knew they wanted to use the tried and true method at Lucasfilm of using puppetry and mechanics for realism rather than a CGI version of the character. One of the series stars, Werner Herzog was adamant the production team should ditch the idea of a contingency plan revolving around a CGI rendering of “The Child” for the series.

“It was a phenomenal achievement of sculpting mechanically. When I saw this, it was so convincing, it was so unique,” Herzog shared with The New York Times. “And then the producers talked about, ‘Shouldn’t we have a fallback version with green screen and have it be completely digitally created?’ I said to them: It would be cowardly. You are the trailblazers. Show the world what you can do.”

We got lots and lots of drawings,” shared show runner and creator Jon Favreau in the latest episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. “Some of them were too cute, some of them were too ugly, some of them were the wrong proportions.”

“It was finally that one image that Chris Alzmann did that had him wrapped up in what looked like a piece of a flight jacket or something,” the creator confessed. “And his eyes were a little weird, and he looked a little out of it, there was something a little off with it. But we found it charming, and that became the rallying image that we said, ‘This is good.’”

It did not take long after the premiere of the first episode of The Mandalorian in November 2019 for the world to fall in love with Baby Yoda. Favreau previously credited Disney and Lucasfilm with the success of the series after they refrained from spoiling the characters appearance with the release of themed merchandise until after the series premiere, a very uncommon practice now a days.

Do you agree keeping “Baby Yoda” secret was a good idea? Were you surprised by the reveal at the end of Episode 1? Have you been enjoying The Mandalorian on Disney+? What do you think of the original concept art? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Stormtroopers invade Disney Springs

Stormtroopers

If you’re going to Disney Springs, then look around for a Star Wars surprise! A pair of First Order Stormtroopers have invaded Disney Springs and can be seen in the upper level near the shopping district side of World of Disney. They’re stationed on the balconies, so look up to see if you can spot them.

Stormtroopers

We first noticed their presence on Wednesday, when the World of Disney store reopened. You can find their patrol stations on balconies with the First Order banners. For fun, wear your Star Wars apparel to Disney Springs and show your allegiance to either the Resistance or First Order. The Stormtroopers might provide amusing commentary depending upon their interaction with each guest. Of course, they could also tell you to “move along” to promote social distancing.

Disney Springs is still going through the first stages of its phased reopening. Several stores and restaurants opened this week, such as the LEGO Store, but more will follow as the phased openings continue for Disney Springs. We expect Raglan Road to open to the public soon, too.

In the meantime, remember to keep an eye out for the First Order Stormtroopers when you do visit Disney Springs!

star wars

Later this year you will be able to discover new Star Wars stories, explore the outskirts of Batuu, and meet new characters from your home thanks to ILMxLAB, Lucasfilm’s award-winning entertainment studio, and Oculus Studios.

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge is a new action-adventure experience that will give fans the opportunity to live their own adventures in virtual reality. This original story will feature both new and iconic characters from the Star Wars galaxy. Multiple styles of gameplay as well as difficulty settings are included so that the experience can be enjoyed by a variety of players.

The story will take place between Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Batuu, with the action happening along the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost. This extension of the storytelling found at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge builds on the lore of a land that has redefined what a Disney park experience can be.

Some Unexpected (and rando, tbh) Guests Are Patrolling Disney World Today…

It’s been a busy day at Disney Springs! From World of Disney reopening to us eating our first official Dole Whip in months, we’ve wondered how it could get any more memorable!

Yes, there are STORMTROOPERS in Disney Springs today!

Leave it up to a squad of actual STORMTROOPERS showing up at Disney Springs today to get the party going!

Yes, you heard us correctly: we spotted Stormtroopers at Disney Springs today!

A pair of Stormtroopers were seen patrolling from high above the shops. We saw them above Uno de 50! Do we think they’re there to enforce the new health and safety protocol in Disney Springs? Regardless, we always find ourselves paying closer attention to the rules when Stormtroopers are around!

Watch out! Stormtroopers are patrolling Disney Springs!

We don’t anticipate seeing them at the ground level, but what an interesting and cool way to incorporate a character interaction today in Disney World!

PLUS — while we listened to them give marching orders to the guests, we noticed that one of the Stormtroopers seems to be female! While we’ve known about Stormtrooper leaders like Captain Phasma being female, we’ve never encountered a female-voiced stormtrooper at Disney World until today! Have you??

Check out what else we’re up to at Disney Springs today here!

Are you heading to Disney Springs soon? Let us know in the comments, and be on the lookout for those Stormtroopers!

Rumored: ‘Solo’ Series Coming to Disney+ After Trending Online

Rumored: ‘Solo’ Series Coming to Disney+ After Trending Online. Over the last year the hashtag #MakeSolo2Happen has been spreading like wildfire online. Star Wars fans who protest the film while in theaters have seemly changed their minds about Solo: A Star Wars Story, since it has appeared on streaming services and released on DVD and Digital.

Since the films release, many fans have come out to say that the film was not as horrible as they imagined it to be. In fact, some are regretting missing the chance to see the film in theaters due to protesting the casting choices, over saturation of Star Wars films in theaters at the time, and for the lack of faith in the Star Wars franchise to tell a story about pre-existing characters.

So what does this mean for Solo: A Star Wars Story? The new found fandom has been pushing for a sequel and they have a great idea about how it should be done. Though the film performed poorly in theaters, it seems to be very popular on streaming services such as Netflix. With Disney launching their own streaming service this November called Disney+, fans believe a spin-off film or series is in order. Maybe with less attention on Han Solo, specifically, but incorporating other characters from the film in new adventures during the time before A New Hope.

Lucasfilm and Disney have been hard at work to bring an untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series to the streaming service that will take place between, Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, meaning there is a chance one of these characters could also appear in the new series, since the timelines could cross.

The studios are also working on a third season for The Mandalorian with season 2 scheduled to release in Oct 2020, untitled ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ series and a ‘Cassian Andor’ series. Recent reports also indicate several new Star Wars projects are in the pipelines for Lucasfilm but details are being kept under wraps for now.

What are your thoughts on a Solo: A Star Wars Story spin-off? Do you love the idea or are you completely against it? What other Star Wars Stories would you like to see come to Disney+? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Company for all things Star Wars!
