Orange County Florida Mayor Predicts Major Theme Parks Like Disney World Won’t Re-Open Until June or Later!

From our friends at www.disneyfoodblog.com

It’s been a WEEK in theme park news, you guys!

Walt Disney World

While we took you with us to check out everything at the re-opening of Universal Orlando’s CityWalk, we also gave you all the details on the confirmed restaurants and stores that will be opening back up in Disney Springs.

According to Click Orlando News, Orange County Florida Mayor, Jerry Demings, doesn’t expect major theme parks to re-open until June or afterwards.

Magic Kingdom

Governor Ron DeSantis plans to move into a “full phase one” this coming Monday, May 18th, where theme parks can submit re-opening plans for consideration. These plans must include opening dates, health and safety guidelines, and an endorsement from Demings. However, Disney World, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld hadn’t submitted any plans as of Friday.

Universal Orlando

Demings believes that large theme parks are “looking at later dates to reopen…and a measured reopening. They will likely start with smaller business units, maybe hotels and resort-type areas before the major, massive theme parks themselves will reopen but in any case I suspect that that is going to be, clearly, some time in June or thereafter before that occurs.”

Walt Disney World’s Epcot

While theme parks are allowed to open during Phase Two of Florida’s re-opening plan, there is no certain timeline when this phase will begin. However, Gatorland Orlando and Fun Spot America are expected to re-open within the next few weeks.

Demings said that representatives from both of the smaller theme parks will present their plans on keeping guests safe to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force. If needed, they will discuss Gatorland and Fun Spot America’s re-opening with state officials as they are trying to “get as many business units reopened as [they] can but safely so.”

Universal

Although they may not have opening dates for their parks, Universal CityWalk re-opened on Thursday, while Disney Springs is slated to re-open on May 20th. The restaurant and shopping areas in both locations will follow strict health and safety procedures and operate with limited capacity and hours.

At this time, Disney World isn’t accepted reservations until July 1st.

Universal CityWalk Reopening

While theme parks haven’t released any information on when they expect to re-open, Disney World announced they are planning to follow strict health and safety protocols during their phased re-opening in Disney Springs. We will continue to keep you updated with more information!

Video: Universal Studios Citywalk is now open to guests

From our friends at chipandco.com

Universal Studios Citywalk is now open to guests in Orlando Florida.

WESH was on hand to get the video…

Universal Orlando CityWalk reopens

CITYWALK OPENS: After being shuttered for almost two months, Universal Orlando’s CityWalk has reopened.

Posted by WESH 2 News on Thursday, May 14, 2020

Universal Studios is under limited operation of select venues at Universal Orlando’s CityWalk starting on Thursday, May 14th as they take the first steps toward reopening their destination.

Select venues are scheduled to open daily from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and include:

  • Select full-service restaurants and quick-service food locations: Red Oven Pizza Bakery, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant & Market, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville (outside seating and Lone Palm area only), Voodoo Doughnut and Auntie Anne’s. Select restaurants will have a limited menu and all restaurants will have limited seating available.
  • Universal Studios Store, Hart & Huntington Tattoo Company’s retail shop and select merchandise carts as well as Hollywood Drive-In Golf

In a post on their website:

The health and safety of our guests and team members remain our top priority and we are taking specific measures that include screening our guests and team members, social distancing and requiring everyone to wear a face covering.  We will also be limiting capacity at venues and increasing our already-aggressive cleaning and disinfection procedures.

We will continue to monitor conditions and make adjustments as we move forward.  Additional venues may be added over time and hours of operations are subject to change. We will continue to work closely with local health officials and our own health and safety experts and adhere to CDC guidelines.  Here are specifics:

  • Our team members will undergo temperature checks and will wear face coverings.
  • We will implement temperature checks for each guest upon arrival. If a guest has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or greater, they will not be able to enter CityWalk.
  • We will require guests to wear face coverings during their visit. We will have face coverings available for purchase at cost.
  • Each venue will limit capacity to help enforce social distancing, and all chairs and tables will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each seating. High-touch surfaces throughout CityWalk will be frequently cleaned and disinfected as well.
  • Cashless payments will be available at select venues, and self-parking will be complimentary.

We encourage guests to follow CDC guidelines and conduct temperature checks prior to arrival. Guests should evaluate their own risk as they determine whether to visit.  And, in line with CDC guidelines, we specifically do not recommend older adults or individuals at high-risk with severe underlying medical conditions visit our facilities.
