NEWS: ‘Relaxation Zones’ May Offer Guests a Chance to Briefly Remove Face Masks When Visiting Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World Resort has proposed a plan to reopen starting in mid-July with Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom on July 11th, followed by EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 15th.

Walt Disney World’s Epcot

Among the many safety measures that will be implemented when the parks reopen will be the required wearing of face coverings by all guests and cast members (which we’ve already experienced in the recently reopened Disney Springs).

The wearing of face masks may be new to many.

And of course, anyone who has spent any amount of time in Central Florida — especially in the summer months — is familiar with the hot and humid weather. Perhaps keeping those factors in mind, Disney mentioned the possibility of “Relaxation Zones” during the Question and Answer phase of the meeting.

Guests with Face Coverings in Disney Springs

Though Disney noted that the wearing of masks has not presented an issue so far in Disney Springs, these potential Zones (located “in and around and off the property”) may allow guests the chance to remove their face coverings for a moment to take a bit of a breather and… well, relax! We imagine there will be more to share about the Relaxation Zones (including potential safety measures within the Zones) as the reopening of the Resort draws near.

The Relaxation Zones are just one of many new items that were discussed today during the proposal of the  plans for the reopening of Walt Disney World. To find out more about the details revealed in today’s proposal (which — at press time, has been approved by Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings in advance of being submitted to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for his approval) you can click here. And you may find even more information by visiting any of the links below.

Food News: Disney World Will Offer Contactless Menus for Guests When Theme Parks Reopen

Disney World made the historic announcement today that they intend to reopen their theme parks mid-July, after their lengthy closure.

It’s Mickey!

As part of their announcement, they outlined a number of new health and safety guidelines that will be implemented throughout their parks and resorts upon reopening. These guidelines range from an advance reservation system to a new Social Distancing Squad. Guests can also expect their dining experiences to look a little different.

A key component of these reopening guidelines is the increase in contactless experiences for guests. Examples include the increase in Mobile Ordering (meaning you can order food from your phone) and contactless payments such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, or the use of Magic Bands.

For guests at table service restaurants, Disney World will be offering contactless menus via QR codes that guests can access. Disposable paper menus will also be available if a guest prefers a non-digital menu. We have already seen digital menus appear at Disney Springs, like at Wine Bar George.

Note that in addition to contactless menus, restaurants will operate with limited capacity when the parks reopen. As part of these limited contact experiences, Disney will also be temporarily suspending all character meet and greets, so character dining may look a little different.

Will you be taking advantage of the digital menus at Disney World? If you’ve been to Disney Springs recently and utilized the digital menus, what was your experience like? Let us know in the comments!

Disney CEO Explains Why Disney World Is Opening AFTER Universal

Earlier, we shared that Chapek had spoken out about why the parks would be opening in July.

Bob Chapek

Now, Chapek has expanded on his initial statements going into a bit more detail as to why the park is choosing to open over a month after other theme parks like Universal Studios, which is reopening June 5th.

With major Florida-base theme parks such as Universal Studios and SeaWorld set to reopen in early June, Disney World has decided not to reopen its parks until July. Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom will be the first to reopen on July 11th while Epcot and Hollywood Studios will follow on July 15th.

But when asked why Disney is planning on reopening its parks much later when compared to other Orlando-area attractions, Chapek stated the following:

Chapek told Bloomberg in an interview, “We feel this is the right time for us, in July. We’ve got a different situation, frankly, than Universal does because we’re much bigger. We have a much more complex business. We’ve got a different labor situation, and at the same time, we’re also going to be implementing a reservation system for our guests. And it’s gonna take some time to take the millions of reservations that we’ve already got on our books and then switch that over to a new reservations system, so we think July is the right time for us.”

Disney has released few details about their new reservation system yet, but shared that we should know more soon. In the meantime, Disney World’s new ticket sales and hotel reservations have been put on pause.

Universal, on the other hand, will be implementing capacity restrictions without the use of a reservation system. You can read their full reopening plan here.

Can You Still Fill Your Refillable Popcorn Buckets in Disney World? Find Out Here!

Disney-owned locations reopened today in Disney Springs and we ? have ? questions!

Popcorn in Disney Springs

If you know us, then you KNOW we miss our Disney snacks. We’ve been investigating all those snack locations to see what iconic Disney eats are available to us once more. We’ve spotted Mickey Pretzels, Popcorn, and even DOLE WHIP. One thing is heavy on our minds though — will Cast Members still refill our refillable popcorn buckets with the added health measures? We found out!

We were wandering Disney Springs today when an amazing development caught our eye — a popcorn stand, popping away! We headed over to snag some of our favorite Disney snacks and to see what sort of health changes they had made.

Popcorn

Like in all other dining locations in Disney Springs, distancing markers are in place to keep guests and Cast Members safe. We snagged a scoop of popcorn to munch on but not before asking if they would fill our refillable buckets for us in the future.

Snack and Cocktail Carts

Well, it turns out that YES, they will fill refillable souvenir buckets. They, however, weren’t selling the refillable popcorn buckets today. You had to already have a refillable popcorn bucket with you.

We will be back with more details on this process soon!

Click here to learn more about the return of Disney snacks!

Will you be bringing your refillable bucket to Disney Springs? Tell us in the comments!

Some Unexpected (and rando, tbh) Guests Are Patrolling Disney World Today…

It’s been a busy day at Disney Springs! From World of Disney reopening to us eating our first official Dole Whip in months, we’ve wondered how it could get any more memorable!

Yes, there are STORMTROOPERS in Disney Springs today!

Leave it up to a squad of actual STORMTROOPERS showing up at Disney Springs today to get the party going!

Yes, you heard us correctly: we spotted Stormtroopers at Disney Springs today!

A pair of Stormtroopers were seen patrolling from high above the shops. We saw them above Uno de 50! Do we think they’re there to enforce the new health and safety protocol in Disney Springs? Regardless, we always find ourselves paying closer attention to the rules when Stormtroopers are around!

Watch out! Stormtroopers are patrolling Disney Springs!

We don’t anticipate seeing them at the ground level, but what an interesting and cool way to incorporate a character interaction today in Disney World!

PLUS — while we listened to them give marching orders to the guests, we noticed that one of the Stormtroopers seems to be female! While we’ve known about Stormtrooper leaders like Captain Phasma being female, we’ve never encountered a female-voiced stormtrooper at Disney World until today! Have you??

Check out what else we’re up to at Disney Springs today here!

Are you heading to Disney Springs soon? Let us know in the comments, and be on the lookout for those Stormtroopers!
