BREAKING NEWS! Disney World Proposes THEME PARK REOPENING DATES!

Walt Disney World made history today and presented their reopening plan and reopening date — after months of closure — to the Florida Orange County Task Force for initial approval.

Magic Kingdom in Disney World

Disney World has reopened many locations in Disney Springs, their shopping and dining district, this week, and will be reopening all four theme parks very soon!

Disney World Theme Park Reopening DATES

Walt Disney World Resort has proposed a reopening date for Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom on July 11th, and a reopening date for Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 15th. If this proposal is accepted, the parks will be open to guests on these dates.

The task force committee voted to approve this reopening plan. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings must sign off on Disney’s proposed plans before they will be presented to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Previously, Demings has said that he will need 24-48 hours to review the plans before submitting them to DeSantis.

Disney World Theme Park Reopening DETAILS

Disney shared that they will have soft opening preview dates and that they will share more information on this soon. Once the parks reopen, Disney will implement a new theme park reservation system. This system will require guests to reserve their arrival in advance to assist with capacity limits. While few details were shared during the meeting, it is important to note that Shanghai Disneyland is currently using a reservation system.

New health and safety procedures will be similar to the ones being implemented in Disney Springs. Some of these protocols will include required face masks for guests and Cast Members, increased social distancing protocols, enhanced cleaning and sanitation, and required temperature screenings for both guests and Cast Members.

Disney also mentioned that select experiences will be modified and that there will be no parades, fireworks, or character meet and greets for the time being.

Mickey Mouse

Disney did share that characters “will still be in our parks to entertain and delight our guests.” You can read MORE about these experiences being temporarily suspended here.

Disney Ticket Sales Information

Disney has updated their website revealing a few more pieces of important information. Disney will not only manage attendance through a theme park reservation system but they will also be pausing NEW ticket sales AND Disney Resort hotel reservations.

Disney Ticket Center

This is so they can “focus on guests with existing tickets and reservations (Disney Vacation Club members can still make new reservations).” Existing ticket holders and Annual Passholders will be able to make these reservation requests in phases BEFORE new tickets go on sale.

Disney Hotel Reopening Information

The Walt Disney World website states, “pending approval from government officials, the phased reopening plans we submitted calls for Walt Disney World theme parks and Disney Resort hotels to open beginning July 11 for Magic Kingdom Park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom followed by EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 15.”

“Additionally, Disney Vacation Club resorts at Walt Disney World will reopen to members and guests and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground will begin to reopen on June 22. Disney Vacation Club resorts in Vero Beach, Florida, and Hilton Head, South Carolina, will also open to members and guests starting on June 15.” More plans on Disney’s new resort physical distancing measures and cleaning protocols will be implemented at these locations as well.

What Will Happen if You Refuse To Wear A Mask In Disney World?

With the reopening of Shanghai Disneyland and Disney Springs, we have face masks on the mind.

Balloons in Disney Springs

So far, all of the reopened Disney properties have the requirement of face masks for Cast Members, employees, AND guests. This has raised concern for some on the subjects of comfort and logistics for their time in Disney. We’ve taken a look at everything you need to know about wearing your mask in Disney World, but what if you refuse to wear one? Here’s what might happen.

Will we be wearing masks in all of Disney World?

Disney Springs is the only piece of Disney World that is currently open and YES, face coverings ARE required to visit. The only time that a guest can remove their face mask is when they are seated at a dining table or actively eating or drinking while they walk around.

The question is, will the rest of Disney World follow the mandatory face-covering model?

Advent Health Cast Member at Temperature Screening

It’s likely. After all, Shanghai Disney Resort remains the only fully open Disney resort in the world, and masks are required everywhere on resort property, except when dining.

Similarly, Universal Orlando Resort is set to open on June 5th, and masks will be required almost everywhere there as well — even on attractions.

Beyond that, Disney executives have made multiple references to masks being used in the reopened theme parks. Over a month ago, Executive Chairman Bob Iger explained that many changes are possible for when Disney parks reopen. More recently, CEO Bob Chapek specifically mentioned masks as a likely requirement for Cast Members and guests in the parks.

The Polite Pig Mask

Combine the statements from Disney leadership with the requirements already in place for other Disney and entertainment properties, and we get a pretty clear picture. When the Disney Resorts reopen, masks will likely be mandatory almost everywhere you go.

Click here to read Bob Chapek’s comments on masks and more.

What if you refuse to wear one?

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends and considers masks safe for anyone above the age of 2 and without underlying health conditions. This means that for most Disney guests and Cast Members, the mask recommendation applies. So, what if you refuse to wear a mask?

Mickey Balloons at Disney Springs

Beyond the recommendation, Disney has made a priority of keeping guests and Cast Members safe and making them feel safe. They consider masks a big piece of this puzzle and therefore may not allow those without face coverings to enter or remain in their parks and properties.

For Disney World specifically, Florida law maintains that Disney has the right to deny you service for any reason, including forgoing your mask. Enforcing such a condition may be difficult, but here is how Disney might handle those who refuse to wear a face covering.

Disney Springs Sign

If you don’t have a mask at the entry point or refuse to wear one, you won’t be allowed in. We’ve seen limited numbers of disposable masks available to guests who don’t have one at the entrances to Disney Springs, but this shouldn’t be relied on by guests. Plan to bring your own mask for the duration of your visit.

Temperature Check

Of course, entrances are a lot easier to monitor than entire properties. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the real difficulty will come when monitoring and dealing with guests who remove their masks once they are in the parks or properties. Currently, the only folks who don’t have to wear a mask in Disney Springs are children under 3 years old or guests who are actively dining.

The new Greeter team and Guest Relations Cast are on the lookout for guests who have removed their masks while they are not dining. We’ve noticed Cast Members are quick to approach guests with their masks off and ask them to re-cover, but most guests seem willing to comply with the new rules.

Guest Relations Cast Member

This system might continue when the parks open with Cast Members on the lookout for guests who have removed their masks. If you refuse to wear one or are noticed multiple times without a mask, there may be further consequences.

It’s possible that not wearing a mask could be treated like any other offense or broken rule on Disney property (think smoking, soliciting, or entering backstage areas). If you adamantly refuse to wear a mask, you may be met by Disney security so they can handle the situation appropriately.

Contemporary Monorail Security Area

Overall, if any guest defies the mask rule, they will likely have to deal with some consequences, and could ultimately be asked to leave if they refuse.

Aerial look at Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser hotel

Galactic Starcruiser

We have a photo update on the upcoming Star Wars Resort. The exciting new Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is set to debut in 2021 and will connect to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The aerial photo featured on Twitter can be seen below.

Guests begin their Star Wars adventure the second they enter the Galactic Starcruiser Terminal. From there, you will be brought into an exclusive launch pod that will transport guests to the Halcyon. The Halcyon is the themed starcruiser where guests will enjoy their two-day cruise across the galaxy.

What’s amazing is how immersive this new resort experience is from beginning to end. The pod that transports guests to the starcruiser will have viewports showing space outside. It will look like you’re actually leaving the planet and boarding a massive spaceship.

Part of the cruise itinerary is a “spaceport of call” where guests go directly to Galaxy’s Edge. Because of the emphasis on being an immersive resort experience, Disney will use special guest transports to bring people to the Black Spire Outpost on Batuu. The whole excursion keeps you locked in the Star Wars story mode, so entering and leaving Batuu will be a new kind of experience. The story told between the starcruiser and the planet of Batuu will be an incredible adventure for resort guests. We will post updates on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser resort when more information becomes available!

spaceship earth

According to the Disney World website Spaceship Earth is now officially closed for refurbishment.

Before the closure of Walt Disney World we reported that Spaceship Earth was set to close on May 26th for a ride refurbishment but the Disney World website did not have it listed as closed till today.

Spaceship Earth is supposed to receive an update to go with the new look & feel of Epcot.

You’ll visit Egypt, which is part of the current version of the attraction, but it will be an Egypt like you’ve never seen before, transformed through the power of light.

Throughout the attraction, you’ll hear new narration and see how light plays a central role in our shared human journey, coming to life in dynamic ways in a celebration of the magic that’s possible when we all come together.

With the big news of today that Disney World will be submitting their reopening plans to Orange County tomorrow it looks like if they were to reopen we won’t be able to have one last right on the classic Epcot attraction.
